    Background

    The current project Syrbanism is working on needs GIS expertise to consolidate, analyze, and visualize spatial data, supporting the design of planning tools and the production of applied outputs for practitioners, municipalities, and communities.

    Objectives of the Consultancy

    The GIS Expert will:

    • Provide technical support for the processing, management, and visualization of spatial datasets.
    • Develop user-friendly maps and analytical outputs that inform planning, training, and communication activities.
    • Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with data protection standards.

    Scope of Work / Tasks

    • Review and organize existing datasets from the project and partner organizations.
    • Develop a structured GIS database with metadata and coding standards.
    • Produce thematic maps (e.g., land use, damage assessment, services, demographic overlays).
    • Support integration of GIS outputs into training modules and communication products.
    • Provide technical advice to the team on data collection standards and workflows.
    • Deliver final GIS files and map products in agreed formats.

    Deliverables

    • Structured GIS database (ArcGIS/QGIS compatible).
    • At least 5 thematic maps tailored to project priorities.
    • Data standards and workflow note (short documentation).
    • GIS inputs integrated into at least one training/knowledge product.
    • Final package of maps and database delivered to the project team.

    Timeline & Estimated Input

    • Duration: October – December 2025
    • Estimated input: about 25 working days, distributed over the period based on activity needs.

    Eligibility Requirements

    • University degree in GIS, geography, urban planning, or related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in GIS data management and mapping.
    • Proven experience with ArcGIS/QGIS and handling large spatial datasets.
    • Knowledge of urban planning, recovery, or HLP-related contexts an asset.
    • Ability to deliver clear, user-friendly outputs for non-technical audiences.
    • Fluency in Arabic or English required; ability to work bilingually is an advantage.
