    General Job Description:

    Faith in Action is seeking a dynamic Community Organizer to build and strengthen a network of congregations and institutions committed to justice, leadership development, and collective action. This role is responsible for cultivating deep, trust-based relationships with clergy and lay leaders, growing organizational membership, and driving impactful local issue campaigns that respond to community needs. The Community Organizer will identify and develop emerging leaders, equip them to take meaningful action, and guide them through strategic campaigns that build power and expand the organization’s influence. The ideal candidate excels at facilitating effective meetings, inspiring collective engagement, and sustaining long-term organizing efforts that advance Faith in Action’s mission across the region.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Organizational Membership

    • Build powerful, trust-based relationships with clergy and key lay leaders.
    • Develop and implement a plan to increase the number of member congregations and institutions in Faith in Action’s eastern North Carolina network.
    • Organize and win local issue campaigns that address the immediate needs and concerns of member congregations and their surrounding communities

    Leadership Development

    • Conduct one-on-one relational meetings with emerging and established leaders to sustain engagement and strengthen the organization.
    • Confidently challenge and support leaders in their growth, helping them identify and act on their self-interest and calling.
    • Cultivate relationships with clergy and leaders of new institutions to successfully recruit them into the network.
    • Identify and develop issue campaigns that build leadership capacity and expand the organization’s influence.

    Action & Strategy

    • Inspire and challenge leaders to take meaningful action on identified issues.
    • Develop and execute effective strategies for collective action and evaluate outcomes for leader development.
    • Maintain a commitment to ongoing organizing work that deepens Faith in Action’s impact and sustainability in the region.

    Meeting Management

    • Plan, organize, and facilitate effective meetings.
    • Prepare leaders to take visible, active roles in leading those meetings and public actions.

    Education & Training Requirements

    • 5-7 years of experience in community organizing, faith-based advocacy, or related fields, preferably in social justice organizations.
    • Experience implementing civic engagement and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) strategies, highly preferred.
    • Demonstrated competence and leadership in multi-faith, multi-lingual, and multi-cultural contexts.
    • Deep understanding of faith-based community engagement and social justice frameworks.
    • Proven ability to mobilize and organize diverse groups, build coalitions, and facilitate community-driven initiatives.
    • Strong communication (written & verbal), interpersonal, and public speaking skills to engage diverse audiences effectively.
    • A demonstrated passion for social justice, community transformation, and faith-based organizing.
    • Integrity, mission commitment, respect for diversity, and the ability to motivate and inspire others.
    • Proficiency in organizing events, campaigns, and advocacy strategies to drive social change.
    • Commitment to FIA's mission, values, and principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
