    Description

    Salary

    Up to €60,072.01 annual salary (100%). The actual salary will be adjusted proportionally based on working hours.

    Location

    You may work from our German office in Berlin, or in a hybrid arrangement to suit you. The successful candidate is required to have the right to work in Germany. We cannot provide Visa sponsorship for this role.

    Contract type

    Initial 12-month fixed term. This position is subject to funding and may be offered full-time (100%, 40 hours/week) or part-time (from 80%, 32 hours/week), depending on funding availability.

    Role Purpose

    We are seeking an experienced educator with strong conceptual thinking, facilitation skills to join our team. The successful candidate will help us delivering and developing innovative civic education and capacity-building programmes that strengthen democratic resilience and counter online hate and disinformation. The role combines training delivery with content development and project coordination. The post holder will play a key role in implementing and further evolving ISD’s flagship education initiatives, including the Business Council for Democracy (BC4D).

    We are looking for a motivated team member who is a native or near-native German speaker with excellent English skills, and who can both lead workshops and training sessions and contribute to the conceptual and operational development of our civic education programmes. Subject-matter expertise in hate speech, disinformation, conspiracy ideologies or digital extremism is mandatory. The ideal candidate will bring additional experience in civic education or digital literacy, alongside strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and project workflows. Experience in designing and implementing needs assessments, conducting and analysing interviews and surveys, as well as translating findings into curricula and developing appropriate teaching and learning materials, is highly valued.

    Key responsibilities include:

    1.Education Design & Delivery (60% of responsibilities)

    • Deliver and facilitate educational workshops and training sessions for professionals, companies, and civil society partners as part of ISD’s flagship action programmes, including the Business Council for Democracy (BC4D). Contribute to the conceptual development of ISD’s education curricula, ensuring content remains up to date and relevant in addressing hybrid threats to democracy, hate speech, disinformation and conspiracy ideologies.
    • Support the impact evaluation and continuous development of the training programme, incorporating feedback from participants and partners.
    • Update and refine existing training modules and contribute ideas and content for new ones.
    • Work collaboratively with project partners, trainers, and ISD colleagues to ensure consistent quality and impact across all sessions.
    • Maintain awareness of current developments and debates in the sector related to online extremism, hate speech, disinformation, and conspiracy narratives, integrating these insights into educational content and delivery.

    2.Project Coordination (35% of responsibilities)

    • Support the coordination and implementation of action projects from planning to evaluation
    • Contribute to the acquisition of new participants and the maintenance of existing partnerships and networks
    • Assist in the organisation of workshops, training sessions, and events
    • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project communication and collaboration
    • Support the monitoring of project progress, timelines, and deliverables
    • Contribute to reporting and documentation, ensuring accurate records are kept of project milestones and outcomes.
    • Assist with Excel spreadsheets and other administrative tasks, support stakeholder management, and help with detailed planning and monitoring of project activities.

    3.Stakeholder Engagement & Representation (5% of responsibilities)

    • Develop and maintain relationships with project partners, funders, and participating institutions to ensure strong collaboration and sustainable impact.
    • Contribute to the development of communication materials, briefings, and event coordination for project visibility and engagement.
    • Represent ISD and its projects at public events, workshops, and media engagements as appropriate.

    The ideal candidate

    We are seeking an experienced educator and project coordinator with a strong background in civic education, political science, communication, or related social sciences. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and reporting, alongside excellent written and verbal communication skills in German (native or near-native level) and English. They should demonstrate strong facilitation skills for delivering trainings and workshops, both online and in person, and possess a solid understanding of digital threats such as disinformation, hate speech, and conspiracy narratives. A proactive, problem-solving mindset, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are essential.

    The ideal candidate will have a relevant academic background, such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent professional experience, ideally complemented by expertise in adult education or curriculum development. They should bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively across teams while managing multiple priorities. Additional desirable qualities include familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks, advanced digital media literacy, and proficiency in additional languages. Integrity, discretion, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes are essential, alongside a collaborative mindset and the flexibility to thrive in a dynamic environment.

    Remuneration

    We offer remuneration in line with the German tariff TVöD Bund, depending on personal qualifications and suitability up to 60,072.01

    Working time model

    • We have a flexitime model, with flexible scheduling from Monday to Friday
    • With us, all travel time is also recognised as working time.
    • We aim for one-hour lunch break per day

    Holidays and overtime

    • In addition to the statutory holiday, we continue to offer 7 days of holiday, which we take together as a Christmas break over the turn of the year.
    • Should you ever have to work overtime, we will compensate you with free time at short notice (We want you to recover).
    • We have a meeting-free period in August, which makes summer holiday planning much easier.
