    Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs (“MCOHA”) seeks a dedicated, enthusiastic attorney to join our Center for Citizenship and Legal Immigration (“CCLI”). We provide free and low-cost legal services to the (mostly Latino) immigrant community in Morris County. Our team currently focuses on representation of unaccompanied minors and victims of domestic violence in immigration court and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) hearings.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Staff Attorney will provide direct representation to immigrant clients seeking to obtain legal status in the United States and assist with community legal education as a member of MCOHA’s Center for Citizenship and Legal Immigration (CCLI), reporting to the CCLI’s Supervising Attorney.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct consultations for potential new clients.
    • Conduct client interviews. Build and maintain relationships with clients.
    • Conduct legal research and analysis of immigration laws, regulations, and policies.
    • Determine and implement legal strategy.
    • Prepare and file immigration petitions, applications and supporting documents.
    • Appear before the immigration court and USCIS.
    • Keep detailed digital case notes and records.
    • Handle a significant caseload and meet minimum case completion metrics.
    • Monitor immigration policy and regulatory changes that could affect clients and provide guidance on compliance to Supervising Attorney.
    • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal team to ensure efficient and effective representation of clients.
    • Educate the immigrant community on legal rights.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervising Attorney.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
    • Admission to practice law in New Jersey
      • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to handle several projects and tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Immigration law experience strongly preferred.
    • Must be bilingual English/Spanish.

    Salary commensurate with experience.
