    Description

    Organizational Overview

At the California Black Power Network, we build Black political power and work to create deep, systemic change to impact the lived realities of Black people in California. The network is composed of local and regional grassroots, community-based organizations in key regions of the state. It aims to increase the power-building capacities of member organizations, encourage growth and collaboration within the ecosystem of Black-led organizations across the state, and make substantial, measurable progress on key issues. Whether it is homelessness and gentrification, mass incarceration and criminalization, deep educational inequities, rampant health disparities, the widening economic and wealth inequality gap, or tax policy inequities -- Black communities across California are disproportionately impacted. At the heart of these conditions is persistent and enduring systemic and anti-Black racism. A key question is what will make this moment different in addressing the longstanding issues of systemic and anti-Black racism.

    Position Description

Reporting to the Organizing Director, the Regional Organizer serves as a critical member of the Organizing and Training Team (OTT) to build relationships, plan, and lead power-building training and capacity-building programs with our network partners across the state. This position will be integral to implementing multidimensional organizing strategies that advance the network’s power-building and campaign goals and will support the engagement and organizing of network partners to develop and implement local, regional, and statewide power-building plans. In addition, the Regional Organizers will develop, implement, and support training and capacity-building plans that deepen and expand network partners’ capacities and develop and sharpen the skills needed to successfully implement multi-dimensional organizing strategies. Applicants should have demonstrated experience in community organizing and electoral campaigns, as well as experience in program management, training, and coalition building.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Serve as the primary point of contact for regional network partners and key allies, fostering strong relationships, facilitating communication, and ensuring alignment on shared goals and strategies.
    2. Lead civic engagement programs from planning through evaluation, serving as the program project manager responsible for staff coordination, developing and maintaining checklists, delegating tasks, setting timelines, facilitating program launch and execution, and completing post-program evaluation and reporting to ensure strategic alignment and impact.
    3. Represent the network in regional partner meetings and events as needed to strengthen collaboration, share updates, and advance collective goals.
    4. Co-plan, develop and support the implementation of strategic power-building and organizing plans in collaboration with network staff and partners to help achieve the network’s short-term and long-term goals.
    5. Design and implement customized training and capacity-building plans for individual network partners and the assigned region.
    6. Lead partner engagement efforts and provide organizing and technical support to ensure effective implementation of organizing and training programs.
    7. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key allies and partners by actively participating in coalition spaces to shape and support organizing campaigns and power-building initiatives.
    8. Coordinate data management in support of base building and civic engagement programs and support partner data management needs, training, and technical assistance.
    9. Manage and support civic engagement and organizing technologies, offering training and technical support to ensure the effective use of digital tools by network partners.
    10. Write reports and perform analysis to evaluate program performance, inform program and partner needs, and support funder reporting as needed.

    Qualifications and Skills

    1. At least 2 years of experience in developing and leading civic/voter engagement, community/labor organizing, or social justice campaigns.
    2. Expertise in developing and implementing civic engagement programs, including facilitating training and capacity building.
    3. Skilled in aligning organizations around common objectives, increasing their capabilities, and maximizing their overall impact.
    4. Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead kickoff meetings, set priorities, manage budgets, and coordinate with staff members to keep the program on track. Intermediate-level experience with project management software, such as monday.com, Asana, or ClickUp, is a plus.
    5. Experience in managing phone banking and canvass programs, outreach teams, volunteer coordination, community mobilizations, and/or community events.
    6. Experience in creating and conducting training and convenings for various audiences.
    7. Knowledge and experience working closely with and building relationships with Black communities.
    8. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
    9. Technology Skills: Demonstrated success leveraging technology in a fully remote environment and proficiency in Google Workspace, Zoom, Monday.com, Action Network, and other tools.
    10. Skilled in writing, presenting, and analyzing information to support internal team collaboration and external coalition coordination, with the ability to communicate ideas using technology and remote communication platforms.
