    Description

MoMI celebrates the history, art, technology, and future of the moving image. By championing experimentation and digital literacy in and around screen-culture, we seek to inform, entertain and inspire, expanding access to technology for all and making the worlds beyond the screen more equitable. The Museum fulfills its mission through temporary and permanent exhibitions, film screenings, live conversations with artists, filmmakers, scholars, media educators, and other industry professionals, access to the Museum’s expansive collection, and robust education programs. Anchored in Astoria, Queens, one of the most diverse places in the country if not the world, each year we welcome 250,000 in-person visitors.

The Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) is undergoing a dynamic new chapter of growth and visibility under new executive leadership. With record attendance and expanding programs, MoMI is advancing a bold fundraising agenda to match its momentum. The Director of Development plays a critical leadership role in advancing MoMI’s contributed revenue goals. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Development, the Director will help drive strategy and execution across individual, foundation, corporate, and government fundraising. This is a role for an experienced fundraiser who thrives in a fast-paced, vibrant cultural institution and who is eager to help shape the future of a New York City museum at the timely intersection of film, media, technology, and education.

    Responsibilities

    Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Growth

      • In close partnership with the Deputy Director for Development, design and execute fundraising and engagement strategies to meet or exceed MoMI’s annual revenue goals across individual, foundation, corporate, and government support.
      • Play a central role in the implementation of fundraising strategies aligned with MoMI’s strategic plan and major initiatives
      • Hold responsibility for meeting assigned revenue targets and contributing meaningfully to the Museum’s overall contributed income
      • Contribute to annual goal setting, revenue projections, and long-term fundraising planning.

    Institutional Giving & Grants Management

      • Oversee a year-round calendar of foundation and government grant opportunities, closely tracking deadlines, requirements, and reporting obligations.
      • Support proposal development in coordination with a freelance grant writer, and collaborate with program, education, and finance colleagues to develop compelling narratives and accurate project budgets.
      • Monitor compliance with funding agreements and ensure timely submission of interim and final reports.

    Donor Cultivation, Solicitation & Stewardship

      • Manage and grow a portfolio of current and prospective funders, with responsibility for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors at a range of giving levels.
      • Independently draft high-quality letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, acknowledgements, and donor correspondence.
      • Oversee Annual Appeal campaign. Collaborate with the Director of Membership & Visitor Engagement and Editorial Director on segmented appeals, list management, and donor experience.

    Corporate Sponsorship & Partnerships

      • Identify and pursue new corporate sponsorship opportunities, particularly within the film, television, streaming, media, technology, and digital innovation sectors.
      • Manage sponsorship deliverables and activations in collaboration with marketing and communications colleagues, ensuring funder visibility and fulfillment.

    Events & Engagement

      • Participate in the planning and execution of fundraising and cultivation events, including MoMI’s annual Moving Image Awards gala.
      • Manage invitation lists, RSVPs, ticket and table sales, and pre- and post-event donor communications in coordination with Development and Marketing teams.

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
