    About I AM ALS

    I AM ALS is a patient-centric movement revolutionizing how to end disease. The nonprofit provides critical support and resources to people with ALS, caregivers, and loved ones. We empower advocates to raise awareness and lead the movement against ALS in driving the development of cures. Founded in 2019 by husband and wife team Brian Wallach and Sandra Abrevaya, I AM ALS was born out of their desire to rewrite the ALS story for Brian and the tens of thousands of other people with ALS.

    I AM ALS has rapidly grown into a powerful, patient-driven movement with an advocate base over 50,000 strong. We've passed critical legislation, hosted nationwide events, and provided essential support to thousands affected by ALS. But there’s more work to be done to grow awareness and amplify our impact.

    About the Opportunity

    We are seeking a Marketing & Communications Manager to join our team as we seek to grow our national movement accelerating a cure for ALS. Our small but mighty MarComms team moves quickly and manages numerous priorities and activities while supporting our entire organization and community. We are nimble, hard-working, and highly collaborative as we deliver exceptional results through compelling marketing campaigns.

    This is an opportunity for the right individual—someone exceptionally creative, organized, and motivated—to step into a growing role as part of an ambitious, visionary staff and organization that’s expanding, accelerating, and leading a national movement. This Manager will have the opportunity to help envision, create, and implement highly visible national marketing campaigns that elevate the stories of those living with and impacted by ALS. This position will report directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications.

    The scope of work will include the following:

    • Marketing & Brand Assets: Working under the direction of the Director, lead the design and production of organizational marketing assets. This includes developing and maintaining brand guidelines, templates, and campaign collateral, as well as designing assets for organizational initiatives and events. Track and report on marketing KPIs and provide insights and recommendations.
    • Web & Digital Content Management: Maintain and oversee website content using WordPress (Divi), including creating and updating pages and posts, conducting audits, and tracking web performance. In partnership with the Director, support digital strategy execution and reporting.
    • Social media marketing management: Develop and publish social media content, manage social inboxes and community engagement, and track and report on social media performance metrics.
    • Campaign Execution: Support organizational campaigns by creating campaign visuals, toolkits, web pages, and digital actions; executing social media and email components; tracking performance against goals; and managing Google Ad Grant campaigns.
    • Email marketing: Oversee email marketing operations, including audience segmentation, subscriptions, and engagement journeys. Lead the creation of newsletters tailored to different audiences and track email performance.
    • Graphic design: Leads graphic design for ongoing initiatives and annual projects such as the Annual Impact Report, as well as other custom marketing materials. Support cross-departmental needs by ensuring messaging consistency and following established processes.
    • Other duties: Provide communications support for organizational projects, assist with publicity and outreach, and perform other duties as assigned.

You enjoy working independently, and can dive into ideating and developing new initiatives with minimal oversight and maximum creativity; but you also love being part of a caring, relational team.

    As a small staff, we work closely cross-functionally at I AM ALS, so in this role you’ll need to excel at coordination and communication across departments. We’ll ask you to always keep in mind not just I AM ALS’ visibility and communications goals, but also how you can help optimize fundraising, community engagement, and our long-term strategic goals. The MarComm team values and prioritizes efficiency, results, authentic storytelling, and innovation in all the work we do.

    To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have a combination of the following experience and qualifications:

    • At least 3-5 years of experience creating content for email, social, and web, managing and/or leading graphic design, and implementing digital (email, social, and web) marketing efforts.
    • At least 2+ years experience working in WordPress CMS or Divi web builder required.
    • Strong visual storyteller utilizing social media and other digital insights, best practices, and creative thinking.
    • Experience managing, refining, and iterating on marketing campaigns to drive tangible results.
    • Experience with publicity and press outreach.
    • Demonstrated strength and interest in maintaining flexibility and creativity in a fast-paced startup environment; willingness to give and receive feedback; working independently as well as collaboratively.
    • Excellent communicator, collaborator, and critical thinker.
    • Experience in healthcare, nonprofits, and/or patient advocacy preferred but not required.

    Position Details

    • Type: Full-time employee (40 hours per week). M-F working hours, with limited evening and weekend hours as needed. Travel will be occasionally required for annual events or staff gatherings.
    • Location: Remote. Anywhere within the US, with Eastern Time Zone working hours preferred
    • Salary: $60,000 - $75,000, dependent on both experience and location
