    Description

    The Director of Development & Marketing is a key strategic leader responsible for driving Atlanta Angels’ revenue growth, donor engagement, and brand visibility.

    Responsible for ensuring $1m+ in revenue, this role designs and executes comprehensive fundraising, marketing, and communications strategies that diversify funding streams and strengthen long-term sustainability.

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director expands our community impact by cultivating meaningful donor relationships, elevating our mission, and building systems that support organizational growth.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Leadership

    • Serves as the primary conduit between the development team and the Board of Directors, providing transparent communication and ensuring development goals and organizational priorities remain fully aligned.
    • Partners with Board committees and the ED to develop comprehensive fundraising and engagement strategies, empowering the Development team to successfully execute campaigns and events that drive donor cultivation, major giving, and brand visibility.
    • Hires, trains, supervises and conducts performance reviews for supervised staff.
    • Mentors, coaches, and inspires the Development team to meet and exceed strategic goals while overseeing all fundraising and marketing functions.
    • Collaborates closely with the Program team to ensure messaging, impact metrics, and donor materials accurately reflect program outcomes.

    Fundraising and Development

    • Works closely with the ED to design and implement innovative strategies aligned with the organization’s strategic plan, with a focus on diversifying and sustaining revenue while deepening relationships with existing donors and stakeholders.
    • Cultivates and stewards relationships with mission-aligned foundations and corporations to build long-term financial partnerships supporting key programs.
    • Develops and executes strategies to attract new individual donors through targeted marketing and outreach, expanding both geographically and demographically.
    • Advances donor diversity by engaging a broader range of supporters, sponsors, and individual contributors.
    • Manages a personal portfolio of individual donors, family foundations, corporate partners, and major donors, conducting direct, face-to-face solicitations.
    • Develops and oversees donor stewardship strategies to strengthen retention and lifetime donor value.
    • Builds scalable systems and processes, including effective moves management and prospect research processes, to ensure repeatability and sustainability for growth.

    Events

    • Serves as the primary Development staff liaison for major annual events, including the golf tournament, donor appreciation event, and fundraising gala.
    • Oversees event budgets, sets revenue targets, and leads the development of fundraising strategies for each event.
    • Works collaboratively with the team to secure corporate sponsorships, increase attendance, and ensure revenue goals are met.

    Marketing & Communications

    • Directs the development and execution of communication strategies and marketing materials for internal and external audiences, ensuring hope-focused and ethical storytelling.
    • Oversees digital strategy, including website content, email campaigns, and social media to drive brand visibility and donor engagement.
    • Aligns messaging and collateral with fundraising strategies to enhance visibility, engagement, and donor acquisition.

    Grant Management

    • Oversees the full grant lifecycle, ensuring timely submission of competitive proposals to foundations, government agencies, and other funders.
    • Manages grant compliance and reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and fulfillment of all requirements.

    Financial Oversight

    • Manages the development budget to ensure strategic and efficient use of resources in support of fundraising efforts.
    • Tracks financial performance and delivers regular fundraising reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

    Data Management & Analysis

    • Utilizes Neon and other donor management tools to monitor engagement and assess fundraising performance.
    • Provides data-driven insights and recommendations to inform strategy and improve outcomes across all development efforts.
    • Ensures data integrity and consistent documentation standards.
    • Implements dashboards or reporting tools for ongoing performance evaluation.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Minimum of 5 years of proven success in nonprofit development/fundraising with at least one year in a leadership level position.
    • Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts and cultivate long-term donor relationships.
    • Strong strategic planning skills with experience designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies.
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, and influence donors, board members, volunteers, and community partners.
    • Proficient in donor management and CRM platforms (e.g., Neon).
    • Solid financial skills with experience managing budgets and reporting on fundraising performance.
    • Data-driven decision-maker with the ability to interpret metrics to evaluate and improve fundraising outcomes.
    • Working knowledge of grant writing and grant management best practices.
    • Experience planning and executing fundraising events and campaigns.
    • Confident public representative of the organization, able to effectively advocate for its mission.
    • Strong marketing and communications background, with experience developing fundraising collateral and outreach materials.
    • Commitment to ethical storytelling and trauma-informed communication.
