    Description

    (In-person, Pittsburgh-based)

    Our Why

Teach Plus is a national nonprofit whose mission is to empower excellent, experienced, and diverse teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that advance equity, opportunity, and student access. The Teach Plus team exists to breathe life into the Student Opportunity Mandate: All students should have the opportunity to achieve their potential in an education system defined by its commitment to equity, responsiveness to individual needs, and ability to prepare students for postsecondary success. At the heart of our work is advocacy for collective impact, beginning with classroom teachers.

    What We Do

At Teach Plus, we believe in equity-driven teacher leadership. When we invest in developing our most talented teachers into teacher leaders who are well-informed, persuasive, and prepared to lead, they have deep leverage in advancing equity for students, for students of color, low-income students, and those from underserved communities. To close the opportunity gap and to ensure equitable access to a world-class education for all students in the schools and communities we serve, we ignite systems change at multiple levels through our Policy Fellowship and Instructional Leadership programs designed to inspire and equip teachers.

    What You’ll Do

Teach Plus is launching the Literacy Forward Network Pennsylvania, a multi-district initiative focused on supporting the implementation of evidence-based reading instruction grounded in the science of reading. This program aims to increase literacy achievement by equipping small to mid-size districts in Southwestern PA with the tools, coaching, and leadership capacity to drive sustainable improvements in reading outcomes through teacher leadership.

Teach Plus’ Teacher-Led Practice Initiatives are innovative programs that engage, develop, and support teacher leaders to generate, implement, and manage change in district and school practices that impact teaching and learning, school culture and climate, and instructional effectiveness. This is a critical leadership opportunity for an experienced coach who is passionate about literacy, teacher leadership, and equity.

The Literacy Leadership Coach will be responsible for the following:

    • Coaching & Development: Provide high-impact coaching to a diverse cohort of Teacher Leaders from participating schools in Southwestern PA.
      • Deliver feedback, guidance, and on-site literacy coaching to strengthen structured literacy instruction.
      • Support Teacher Leaders’ growth through bi-weekly 1:1 and small group sessions, literacy and leadership development conversations, and ongoing observation-based feedback.
    • Professional Learning Facilitation: Plan, design, and facilitate professional learning for Teacher Leaders and school partners, including:
      • Bi-monthly cohort meetings, multi-day hands-on training, quarterly convenings, and other sessions as needed.
      • Ensure professional learning aligns with equitable teaching practices and evidence-based continuous improvement cycles.
    • Collaboration & Partnership: Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with school, district, and Teach Plus leaders.
      • Partner with them to create and implement strategic literacy and leadership goals, develop improvement plans, monitor progress, and adjust strategies as needed.
    • Program Implementation & Planning: Serve as the primary point of contact for Teacher Leaders, addressing needs, answering questions, and providing resources.
      • Collaborate with the Teach Plus Program Director and school leaders to plan for future school years, including designing and co-facilitating professional learning for 2026 and 2027.
    • Data Review & Continuous Improvement: Participate in quarterly data review sessions with Teach Plus staff and district partners to evaluate progress, inform instructional strategies, and ensure program goals are met.

What You’ll Need to be Successful

    • Structured literacy training and/or certification (e.g., Reading Specialist certification, LETRS, AIM Institute, Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, etc.) with deep knowledge and practical application of the Science of Reading.
    • Experience coaching teachers and/or school leaders in diverse or under-resourced environments, including leadership development and facilitating instructional inquiry.
    • Demonstrated success leading literacy-focused school transformation and instructional improvement in elementary literacy.
    • Strong focus on data, using analysis to inform instruction and drive continuous improvement.
    • Experience designing and delivering professional development, supporting adult learning, and leading instructional initiatives.
    • Commitment to educational equity and belief in the power of teachers to improve outcomes for all students.
    • Ability to support evidence-based reading practices and ensure instructional approaches align with current research to improve student literacy outcomes.
