    About Jewish Food Society (JFS):

    JFS is a non-profit organization that works to preserve and celebrate Jewish culinary heritage from around the world in order to increase awareness and deepen connections to Jewish life, especially for young adults. We believe in the power of food to cultivate deep engagement, evoke pride, and forge a sense of belonging. We create impactful content about Jewish culture and history through our digital archive of family stories and recipes and bring it to life through dynamic public programs like our new flagship event The Great Nosh. We amplify this content through a range of communication channels including robust social media activity.

    Position Overview:

    JFS is seeking a dedicated and passionate Development Manager to work closely and in collaboration with the Executive Director (ED) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) in person at our NYC office, and help devise and implement strategies to engage both foundations and individuals in supporting JFS’s mission and work. This is a unique opportunity to work with a highly effective organization on the verge of significant expansion, and support it in making a real impact in this challenging moment in time.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy in partnership with the ED, that supports JFS’s mission and vision and organizational growth.
    • Identify, cultivate, and engage prospective donors and foundations with specific interests and/or expertise in areas that align with JFS’s initiatives or strategic priorities.
    • Conduct initial outreach to prospective individuals and foundation prospects to determine feasibility and fit.
    • Oversee and track the grant cycle and manage grants from start to finish, support writing and reporting.
    • Manage stewardship of current donors through consistent communication, regular updates throughout the year, and invitations to relevant events and activities.
    • Maintain and manage an active database of current donors and prospects who are in the various stages of cultivation.
    • Ensure Donor Management CRM is constantly up to date and share regular reports with the executive team.
    • Create/update consistent language and materials to be used by board members and staff for fundraising purposes.
    • Support board cultivation and communication.

    Qualifications:

    • Passionate about JFS’s mission and vision and excited to join a fast-paced entrepreneurial organization.
    • 5+ years of experience in major gifts development for a Jewish non-profit organization on a national level.
    • Experience in developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
    • Familiarity and a deep understanding of the Jewish philanthropic landscape.
    • A history of successful fundraising.
    • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
    • Well-organized with strong attention to details.
    • Familiar and comfortable working with a CRM tracking system.
