    Description

    The Association of Community Employment Programs (ACE) works with adults who have been impacted by homelessness, addiction, and incarceration - providing job training, work experience and a lifetime support network to help participants secure full-time employment and achieve long-term economic independence.

    ACE seeks a full-time Case Manager & Vocational ESL Instructor. This person will manage a case load of participants. They will also lead small group ESL instruction focused on vocational topics. The ideal candidate will have experience working with adults with barriers to employment and experience with ESL / ESOL. This is an in-person position based in our offices in Long Island City, Queens – one subway stop outside of Manhattan.

    The Case Manager will provide case management services, plan and facilitate vocational ESL classes, conduct program intake interviews, facilitate job readiness classes, periodically assist with community outreach, and will report to the Program Director.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Manage a case load by assisting participants in reaching prevocational goals, making referrals as needed, communicating with referring case managers, tracking vocational and educational progress, providing light-touch financial coaching, supporting the development of job search and interviewing skills, and providing individual counseling
    • Facilitate small-group ESL classes focused on vocational themes, including industry-specific English skills and vocabulary centered on job search and employment scenarios
    • Attend bi-weekly case conferences to report on participant progress
    • Facilitate classes on job-related topics, including workplace skills, interviewing skills, daily living skills, computer classes, and other topics as needed
    • Conduct intake interviews, assess eligibility of each candidate in conjunction with intake team
    • Assist in conducting presentations about ACE at partner sites, attend off-site recruitment events

    Perform other duties as needed or requested by program director.

    Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

    • Bilingual English/Spanish
    • Comfortable planning and facilitating classes; experience teaching ESL / ESOL
    • At least 1 year of experience in social services, education, or a similar environment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable working with a diverse population
    • Operates comfortably in fast-paced environments, where you often have to pivot quickly between different activities
    • Organized and attentive to detail
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Internet research
    • A commitment to helping formerly homeless individuals transition to economic independence and pursue their long-term vocational goals
