    Description

    Job Posting: Finance Director

    January 2026

One Fair Wage is an organization seeking to raise wages, enhance working conditions in the service sector and end all subminimum wages in the United States.

With the Great Resignation, millions of workers are refusing to work for subminimum wages, employers are raising wages to recruit staff, and the political landscape to advance policy to raise wages has changed dramatically. Given the historic moment, One Fair Wage has launched an ambitious campaign to advance bills and ballot measures in multiple states nationwide to raise wages and end subminimum wages in the US - and through the process, engage millions of unlikely, low-wage worker voters politically. One Fair Wage is thus advancing policy, voter engagement, employer engagement, and narrative and culture shift activities to ultimately lift millions of service workers out of poverty nationwide and engage them in the political process that governs their lives.

    The Opportunity

One Fair Wage (OFW) is seeking a Part-Time Director of Finance to provide senior-level financial oversight of a full time finance manager, during a critical phase of organizational growth. This role is ideal for an experienced, strategic finance leader who excels at designing systems, translating complex financial information into clear insights, and supporting executive decision-making in fast-moving, high-stakes environments.

The Director of Finance will provide financial oversight of One Fair Wage’s ecosystem of entities, including a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and several emerging related business ventures. Working closely with the President and Executive Team, this role will ensure strong financial oversight, clear cashflow visibility, compliance across funding structures, and proactive identification of opportunities and risks.

This is a part-time role (approximately 15–20 hours per week) designed for someone with deep senior experience who can operate at a high strategic level while building and refining systems that support sustainable growth. OFW is experiencing a growth spurt, and this role is essential to helping the organization scale with clarity, creativity, and resilience.

The ideal candidate is a systems designer and translator: someone who understands the technical nuances of nonprofit and political finance, can communicate clearly with non-financial leaders, and is entrepreneurial enough to navigate complexity, ambiguity, and constraint without losing sight of mission or momentum.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    1. Financial Strategy & Executive Partnership
    • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the President and Executive Team on financial planning, sustainability, and organizational growth.
    • Provide clear, timely financial insights to inform strategy, decision-making, and problem-solving.
    • Translate complex financial data into accessible, actionable information for non-financial leaders.
    • Anticipate financial challenges and opportunities, raising flags early and proposing solutions.
    1. Ecosystem-Level Financial Oversight
    • Provide financial oversight across OFW’s ecosystem of entities, including C3, C4, and affiliated business ventures.
    • Ensure appropriate tracking, allocation, and reporting of revenue and expenses across entities, in compliance with funding and legal requirements.
    • Support strategic decision-making around resource deployment, growth investments, and risk management.
    • Maintain a high-level dashboard of income, expenses, and cashflow across entities.
    1. Systems Design & Financial Infrastructure
    • Design, refine, and maintain financial systems that support clarity, accountability, and scalability.
    • Ensure systems are right-sized for a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization while meeting compliance and reporting needs.
    • Develop and document processes that improve efficiency, visibility, and coordination across teams.
    • Balance rigor with flexibility, adapting systems as the organization grows and conditions change.
    1. Cashflow Management & Financial Reporting
    • Oversee monthly cashflow planning and monitoring across entities.
    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for leadership, funders, and internal stakeholders.
    • Identify trends, constraints, and emerging risks, and recommend adjustments as needed.
    • Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning in collaboration with leadership.
    1. Supervision & Team Support
    • Supervise the Accounting Manager, who is responsible for data entry, QuickBooks management, and day-to-day accounting functions.
    • Provide guidance, structure, and oversight to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with broader financial strategy.
    • Build systems and workflows that support strong performance, accountability, and sustainability.
    1. Compliance, Creativity & Problem-Solving
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit, political, and funder requirements, including distinctions between C3 and C4 funding.
    • Navigate complex or restrictive funding structures with creativity and integrity.
    • Support the organization in responding to external threats, scrutiny, or destabilization efforts with steady financial leadership.
    • Apply an entrepreneurial mindset to problem-solving in a mission-driven, high-pressure environment.

    Qualifications

    • We recognize that strong candidates may come from a range of backgrounds. We encourage you to apply if many (but not necessarily all) of the following describe you:
    • Significant senior-level experience in nonprofit, political, or mission-driven financial leadership.
    • Deep understanding of financial systems, controls, and reporting across multiple entities.
    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement systems that support clarity, scale, and sustainability.
    • Strong experience translating technical financial information into clear, accessible insights for non-financial leaders.
    • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage complexity across multiple revenue streams and entities.
    • Entrepreneurial and resourceful; comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting when conditions change.
    • Proactive and solutions-oriented, with strong judgment and discretion.
    • Able to work calmly and effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
    • Values-aligned with One Fair Wage’s mission and committed to economic justice, worker power, and democratic values.
    • Communicates with honesty and respect; builds trust across differences including race, gender, class, immigration status, and political perspective.

    Experience

    • 10+ years of relevant financial leadership experience, with significant time at a senior or director level.
    • Experience working with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities strongly preferred
    • Experience supervising accounting or finance staff.
    • Experience supporting executive leadership and organizational strategy.

The Director of Finance will work closely with a national leadership team across multiple time zones. While this role is part-time, it requires reliability, responsiveness, and flexibility during critical moments. The pace of the work is dynamic; OFW values sustainability while recognizing that moments of growth or external pressure may require additional engagement.
