    Description

Program Coordinator, Reach Out and Read Greater NYC

Reach Out and Read of Greater New York (ROR GNY) integrates literacy into pediatric care, sharing the power of reading with over 260,000 children annually. We train medical professionals—physicians, nurse practitioners, and residents—to provide children with developmentally and linguistically appropriate books during well-child visits, encouraging families to read aloud together at home. For many families, these are the first books in their home libraries.

Reach Out and Read is the only national literacy organization that engages pediatricians as stewards of early literacy and healthy child development, leveraging the healthcare system to deliver literacy support during the critical early years of life.

    The Opportunity:

The Program Coordinator plays a key role in supporting ROR GNY’s mission through direct engagement with program sites and healthcare providers. Reporting to the Director of Medical Engagement, this position combines field-based relationship building with program coordination and administrative support. The Coordinator will conduct site visits, manage communications, collect data, and ensure program quality across a growing network of clinics.

This role is ideal for a highly organized, personable professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about early literacy, child development, and community impact.

    Who We Are Looking For:

The ideal candidate demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and strong communication skills, with the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships across the healthcare and nonprofit sectors.

    Key Qualifications and Strengths:

    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to build strong relationships with program sites, medical providers, and community partners.
    • Conduct a minimum of 100 in-person site visits per year, with up to 75% of work time spent in the field throughout the Greater New York area.
    • Experience supporting fundraising or development activities such as donor relations, grants, and events.
    • Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; experience with database or CRM systems preferred.
    • Clear, professional communication skills (verbal and written); comfortable engaging via phone, email, and in-person.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment.
    • A strong personal commitment to Reach Out and Read’s mission of promoting early literacy and strengthening family-provider relationships.

Preferred qualifications include bilingual proficiency, as well as demonstrated creativity, adaptability, and proactive problem-solving skills.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Partnership Development and Engagement:

    • Build and maintain relationships with assigned program sites to ensure fidelity to the ROR model and provide ongoing technical assistance.
    • Conduct site visits, assign quality ratings, and implement improvement plans based on site performance and needs.
    • Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and leadership staff to deepen engagement and identify opportunities for partnership growth.
    • Represent ROR GNY at meetings, conferences, and community events to strengthen relationships and increase visibility.

    Program Services and Quality Assurance:

    • Support the Director of Medical Engagement with program management, data analysis, and multi-site system coordination.
    • Ensure timely completion of biannual progress reports, reviewing site data to identify trends and guide continuous improvement.
    • Guide new sites through the onboarding, provider training, and implementation process.
    • Collect stories, testimonials, and photos from program sites for development and communications use.
    • Assist with logistics and planning for ROR GNY Town Halls, the Annual Conference, and statewide or national meetings.
    • Identify sites in need of book funding and collaborate with the team to allocate resources equitably.
    • Contribute to process improvements, quality assurance, and internal resource development.

Position Specifications: A bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, Research, or a related field is required for this full-time, exempt position, which involves approximately 75% fieldwork. While Reach Out and Read of Greater New York operates remotely, the Program Coordinator travels throughout the Greater New York area for site visits, storage unit duties, and other in-person responsibilities as needed. The remaining time is dedicated to remote administrative and coordination tasks.

This role involves frequent interaction with mid-level and senior medical professionals, representing ROR GNY with professionalism and mission-driven engagement.
