Our mission is to collaborate with communities and partners to lead policy change that advances health equity for all Georgians. Founded in 2008 and based largely in Atlanta, GHF works through public education, coalition building, strategic communications, and public policy advocacy to improve access to health coverage, care, and public health.

    Position Overview

    The Director of Development & Communications is a senior leadership role responsible for leading GHF’s fundraising and resource development strategy while overseeing a communications function that advances organizational visibility, credibility, and impact. Fundraising and development are the primary focus of this role; communications strategy and storytelling serve as key tools to support donor engagement, public education, and organizational influence.

    This position reports to the Executive Director, supervises key communications staff and development contractors, and collaborates closely with program, policy, and leadership team members.

    Key Responsibilities

    Development & Fundraising (Primary Focus)

    • Lead and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual giving, major gifts, foundations, corporate support, and sponsorships
    • Oversee grant development and management, including prospecting, proposals, reporting, and compliance
    • Cultivate, solicit, steward, and retain individual and institutional donors
    • Partner with the Executive Director and Board of Directors on fundraising strategy and donor engagement
    • Manage donor data systems (CRM) and track fundraising goals, metrics, and progress

    Communications Strategy

    • Lead a communications strategy that supports advocacy and fundraising goals, organizational visibility, and mission impact
    • Oversee messaging, storytelling, and brand voice across digital, print, media, and donor-facing materials
    • Ensure communications efforts are aligned with development priorities and campaigns

    Leadership & Team Management

    • Supervise and support the Communications Manager, Content Development Manager, and contract grant writers
    • Foster strong coordination across development and communications functions
    • Serve as a member of GHF’s leadership team and collaborate across departments

    Some statewide travel (<10%) may be required to meet with funders/donors, community partners, and stakeholders, and carry out development responsibilities. Limited domestic travel to conferences or trainings may also be required.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • 7+ years of demonstrated nonprofit fundraising and development experience
    • Proven success leading fundraising strategy and meeting revenue goals
    • Experience supervising staff and managing contractors
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience using donor databases/CRMs and data to inform strategy
    • Strong project management skills
    • Commitment to health equity and GHF’s mission

    Preferred

    • Knowledge of health policy, health care systems, or public health
    • Familiarity with Georgia’s state policy environment
    • Experience working with Boards of Directors on fundraising
