Are you passionate about making a difference in the rare disease community? CureSHANK, a nonprofit research organization dedicated to finding treatments and cures for Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS), is seeking a talented and motivated Communications Specialist to join our team.
As a small but impactful organization, we rely on strong, thoughtful communication to connect with our community, raise awareness, and support our mission. If you have experience managing social media, email marketing, creating compelling communications, and website management including content development, we’d love to hear from you!
Key responsibilities
- Develop and manage CureSHANK’s social media presence across platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
- Plan, create, and schedule engaging content to increase awareness and engagement.
- Manage email campaigns, including newsletters, donor updates, and event communications (Mailchimp expertise required).
- Maintain and update our website with fresh, relevant content (Squarespace experience required).
- Support storytelling efforts by collaborating with team members to highlight our mission, impact, community stories, and research and science initiatives.
- Track and report on analytics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies.
- Assist with other communications-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in social media management, email marketing, and website administration
- A background in medical or science writing or health journalism is preferred, particularly experience communicating complex information with clarity and accuracy
- Graphic design experience required (Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud)
- Strong writing and editing skills with an ability to craft clear, engaging communication content and messaging
- Required experience with: Squarespace, Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud
- Experience using analytics (GA4) and social reporting to track engagement and optimize content strategies
- Self-starter with excellent time management and organizational skills
- Passion for nonprofit work and an interest in rare disease advocacy as well as biotech experience or genetics is a plus
Compensation and Hours
- $45-55/hour depending on experience and qualifications; contract position (1099).
- Approximately 20 hours per week, with flexibility to work remotely.
- No benefits available at this time.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship for this role.
- Infrequent travel (less than once per quarter) to live events to manage social media, content development, and social dissemination may be required. All related costs will be covered by CureSHANK.
