    Description

    The Community Associate will ensure all LGBTQ+ youth, ages 18 to 24, who are residents of the Wanda Alston Foundation youth transitional housing program are safe, supported, monitored, and cared for respectfully. The role is essential to ensuring that residents adhere to the program, including the housing rules, policies, and regulations, while also meeting the organization's programming needs. This position reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for implementing tasks, directives, and interventions to help residents meet their case plan goals. The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday from 3pm - 11pm.

    Resident Engagement (70%)

    • Foster a positive culture and community at the housing facility.
    • Create opportunities for community engagement to support the development of activities of daily living (ADLs).
    • Collaborate with the team to organize youth-led programming, events, workshops, and trainings.
    • Implement strategies to motivate residents’ attendance and participation in life skills workshops, mental health therapy appointments, and other programs.
    • Support the Operations Manager in conducting and documenting monthly room inspections.
    • Develop flyers and communication materials to promote activities.
    • Implement house rules through warm reminders and interactions with the residents.
    • Assist with day-to-day life skills when asked for by youth or the supervisor.

    Facility Oversight (15%)

    • Monitor building and facility conditions following agency guidelines for maintenance and coordinate the acquisition of furniture and other household supplies.
    • Carry out weekly room inspections, monthly fire drills, and emergency procedures in the event of illness or accident.
    • Serve meals based on the menu calendar assigned by the supervisor.
    • Understand, respond, and adapt to the constantly changing youth housing environment.
    • Be on call to cover colleagues’ schedules at any notice, including weekends and overnights.
    • Organize kits and prepare units for resident move-in and move-out.

    Administrative (15%)

    • Complete, submit, and review daily shift notes.
    • Complete and track unusual incident reports, and follow up as needed.
    • Maintain necessary documentation, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive, and accurate reports of housing facility activities.
    • Complete all required and assigned professional development trainings.
    • Participate in regular supervision and staff meetings.
    • Manage multiple databases and calendars.
    • Support in the organizing of House Monitor convenings, retreats, and schedules.
    • Develop program reports and memos as needed.

    Desired Skills and Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma/GED Required.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience working directly with LGBTQ+ young adults preferred.
    • Basic computer skills and great customer service skills.
    • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and needs and to prioritize and execute tasks efficiently.
    • Sensitivity to the needs and problems of marginalized young adults who are homeless, at risk for homelessness, and who have experienced trauma.
    • Ability to exercise patience and understanding in escalated situations or crises.
    • Ability to work extra hours and attend meetings/trainings when needed.

    Physical Requirements:

    This job involves a mix of sedentary and active duties. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use their hands or fingers and utilize a computer or laptop to complete their duties successfully. The employee may occasionally be required to lift packages up to 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to sit for prolonged periods. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in this work environment is usually low to moderate. The employee may occasionally be required to use their hands and fingers to perform janitorial and light cleaning duties as well as assist maintenance with flipping housing units.

    Other Terms of Employment:

    • Candidates must complete and successfully pass a drug test, alcohol test, TB test, sex offender registry check, Child Protection Register check, and criminal background check prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
    • $45,000 - $55,000 annual salary.
    • These duties may be revised and others duties may be assigned as necessary, at any time, with or without notice.
