    Description

    THE ORGANIZATION

Al Otro Lado is a binational legal services and immigrant rights organization serving

immigrants, asylum seekers, and deported persons in Southern California, Tijuana,

México, and beyond. We provide client-centered, multidisciplinary legal representation,

engage in human rights monitoring and impact litigation, and work to protect individual

rights while addressing systemic barriers within immigration and border enforcement

    systems.

Our work is grounded in principles of dignity, access to justice, and harm reduction, and

we collaborate closely with community-based organizations, academic institutions, and

public interest partners. Through these partnerships, and with the support of hundreds

of trained volunteers each year, we seek to deliver high-quality legal services and

contribute to sustainable, community-informed approaches to immigrant justice.

Al Otro Lado seeks an experienced and highly organized Grant Writer to play a central

role in sustaining and expanding our institutional funding. This position is responsible for

leading the development of grant proposals and reports, managing a complex grants

    humanitarian programming, and systems-change work.

    • Assist the Grants Manager in maintaining and managing the grants calendar to

track deadlines, reporting requirements, and follow-ups.

    • Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities

using grant databases, funder communications, and professional networks.

    • Communicate submission outcomes, feedback, and next steps to relevant staff.
    • Support funder compliance, reporting accuracy, and internal documentation.
    • Other duties as needed, in keeping with the organization’s mission.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience successfully writing and managing multiple grant

    proposals and reports simultaneously.

    • Strong alignment with social justice values and experience working with

    immigrant, refugee, or asylum-seeking communities.

    • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment, with strong

judgment, follow-through, and attention to detail.

    • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and cross-departmental communication skills.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving nonprofit environment.
    • Per AOL’s contractual agreements, all employees must undergo a background

check because of our work with migrant children.

    Preferred (but not required):
