    Executive Director: Homeownership San Francisco (DBA Home SF)

    Reports to: Board of Directors

    Status: Full-Time, Exempt

    About Home SF

    Founded in 2009, Home SF is a collaborative network dedicated to helping diverse and underserved households achieve and sustain homeownership in San Francisco. As an intermediary organization, HSF works with member agencies to coordinate education, counseling, outreach, program standards, and community engagement to expand affordable homeownership opportunities.

    Position Summary

    The Executive Director (ED) is the senior leader responsible for the strategic, programmatic, operational, and financial management of Home SF. The ED partners closely with the Board of Directors and member agencies to ensure the organization’s mission, vision, and goals are effectively executed. The ED provides leadership on program delivery—including oversight of homeownership education, counseling coordination, centralized intake, marketing/outreach, and uniform program standards—while also serving as the primary external representative and advocate for the organization.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Governance, Board Relations & Strategic Leadership

    • Implement the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.

    • Partner with the Board Chair to support effective governance and board development.

    • Keep the Board informed on organizational health, trends, risks, and opportunities.

    • Facilitate long-range strategic planning and organizational direction.

    2. Program, Product & Service Delivery

    Oversee design, coordination, delivery, and quality of all programs and services, including:

    Homeownership Education & Counseling Coordination

    • Ensure coordinated scheduling and delivery of homeownership education classes across member agencies.

    • Work with staff and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development to provide training and technical support for housing counseling agencies.

    • Convene regular Collaborative Meetings for Rental and Homeownership partners to share best practices, updates, and integrate programming for the purpose of achieving better client outcomes.

    • Oversee centralized intake, assessment, referrals, and client navigation. • Maintain and enhance online homeownership education resources.

    • Work with member agencies to develop and monitor uniform program standards.

    • Ensure timely collection of programmatic reports and data for internal and external requirements.

    • Promote consistent and high-quality service delivery across the collaborative.

    Program Quality & Evaluation

    • Implement outcomes-based evaluation processes.

    • Track performance, analyze impact, and report results to the Board, funders, and stakeholders.

    3. Community & Public Relations

    • Serve as the primary spokesperson and public representative of the organization.

    • Promote HSF’s mission, services, and collaborative model to the public, policymakers, and media.

    • Build strong relationships with member organizations, city/county agencies, community-based organizations, and partner institutions.

    • Develop and manage marketing and outreach activities, including public awareness campaigns, community information sessions and events. Lead the coordination of the annual San Francisco Affordable Housing Expo.

    4. Fund Development & Sustainability

    • Lead fundraising strategy, identifying funding needs and opportunities.

    • Research and cultivate potential funders, prepare proposals, and manage grants.

    • Oversee donor stewardship, grant reporting, and fundraising documentation.

    • Work with the Board and Resource Development Committee to set fundraising goals, establish an individual giving campaign, and implement the fundraising plan.

    5. Financial, Legal & Risk Management

    • Develop the annual budget for Board approval and manage resources within approved guidelines.

    • Oversee financial reporting, audits, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

    • Ensure timely filing of required legal and regulatory documents.

    • Manage organizational risk, insurance, contracts, and facilities.

    6. Human Resources & Organizational Management

    • Manage staff, contractors, and interns (including AmeriCorps roles when applicable).

    • Ensure personnel policies and practices comply with applicable laws.

    • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and service members.

    • Create a positive, mission-driven, and equitable organizational culture.

    • Oversee development and maintenance of operational systems, policies, and procedures.

    7. Collaboration & Partnership Development

    • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with all member agencies.

    • Facilitate coordination of services across organizations to strengthen the homeownership ecosystem.

    • Engage local government, financial institutions, businesses, and community-based organizations to support program goals.

    • Support the development of joint initiatives, program innovations, and shared advocacy efforts.

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree (business, public administration, community development, or related fields preferred) OR equivalent professional experience.

    • Senior leadership experience in nonprofit, affordable housing, or community development organizations.

    • Strong written and verbal skills, public speaking experience and the ability to communicate organizational messaging to the broader community.

    • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and communities.

    • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising staff or volunteers.

    • Ability to analyze financial reports, budgets, and legal documents.

    • Knowledge of affordable rental and homeownership programs, policies, and services.

    • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize, multitask, and solve complex problems.

    • Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM systems).

    • Experience in homeownership education/counseling.

    • Experience with collaborative networks or collective impact initiatives.

    • Marketing, outreach, or community engagement experience.

    • Experience using databases, online content tools, and digital communication platforms.

    • Willingness to attend evening or weekend events as needed.
