    Description

    The Welcome Center is a sponsored work of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Philadelphia. The Center offers opportunities that enable immigrants and others to improve the quality of their lives through access to education, support services and programs leading to selfsufficiency.

    TITLE: Coordinator of Communications and Events

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director, SSJ Welcome Center

    FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Exempt

    SUMMARY: Manages communications across media platforms; oversees the planning, execution, and promotion of events

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Commits to the Mission/Vision of the Sisters of Saint Joseph
    • Advocates for immigrant rights
    • Infuses the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph into communications approach and event organization
    • Maintains the budget allotted for communications and event expenses
    • Drafts social media posts and manages various media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.)
    • Implements strategies that increase the Center’s presence and effectiveness on social media
    • Manages website with updated content in relation to SEO
    • Designs seasonal newsletter (three issues)
    • Writes the minutes for team meetings and the monthly annals
    • Plans, executes, and promotes events that further highlight the Center’s mission; collaborates with the Advancement Committee of the Advisory Board – some evening and weekend hours are thus required
    • Designs graphics/materials for events
    • Assesses the success of events; envisions events that introduce new friends to the Center’s mission and foster a spirit of equity
    • Serves as the primary contact for event vendors; researches new vendors with whom to partner

    COLLABORATING PARTNERS BEYOND WELCOME CENTER TEAM:

    • SSJ Communications Office: assists with any video media
    • Advancement Committee(Advisory Board): plans, executes, and promotes events

    EDUCATION: BA/BS in Communications, Marketing, English, Event Management, a related field, or comparable experience

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Design work in a variety of platforms: Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.), Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Constant Contact
    • Website design and/or management (WordPress)
    • Event coordination

    SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Strong writing ability with attention to detail, grammar, cohesiveness
    • Visionary mindset
    • Willingness to draft and revise in collaboration
    • Interpersonal/relationship building
    • Flexible mindset working with people of diverse backgrounds and capacities

    OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience working in a nonprofit/mission-driven organization
