    Latinos En Spokane is a Latino and immigrant-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Eastern Washington. Our mission is to advance systemic change, racial justice, and generational health and wealth for Latinos, immigrants, and historically marginalized communities. Our work spans wraparound services, food justice, economic development, cultural programming, grassroots organizing, and policy advocacy—rooted in community leadership and lived experience.

    Position Summary

    The Director of Development leads all fundraising, donor engagement, and resource development efforts for Latinos En Spokane, with a strong emphasis on individual and business donors, institutional funding, and long-term sustainability. This role also oversees development-related communications and storytelling, ensuring donors, partners, and the broader community are consistently informed about impact, priorities, and opportunities to engage.

    Working in close partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, the Director of Development designs and executes a comprehensive development strategy; manages donor and grants data systems; and ensures transparent, values-aligned communication that strengthens trust, accountability, and investment in the organization’s mission.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Individual & Business Donor Strategy (Primary Responsibility)

    • Design and implement a comprehensive individual and business donor fundraising strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, recurring donors, and corporate sponsorships.
    • Build, manage, and grow a donor pipeline using prospect research, segmentation, and moves management strategies.
    • Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and business donors, with a demonstrated ability to close gifts and grow long-term relationships.
    • Develop tailored stewardship plans that increase donor retention, upgrades, and multi-year commitments.
    • Partner with the Executive Director and Board members on donor identification, cultivation, solicitations, and follow-up.
    • Meet or exceed annual revenue goals for individual and business giving.

    Grant & Project Management

    • Lead targeted grant research and maintain a master grants calendar aligned with organizational and program priorities.
    • Prepare letters of intent, grant proposals, applications, and reports for private foundations, corporate foundations, and government funders.
    • Identify, cultivate, and steward new and existing institutional funders.
    • Collaborate with program and finance staff to develop accurate budgets, outcomes, and compelling narratives.
    • Ensure full compliance with grant requirements, reporting deadlines, and funding cycles.

    Development Communications & Storytelling

    • Lead development-related communications that support fundraising, stewardship, and transparency.
    • Craft and oversee storytelling that elevates community voices, program impact, and organizational values, ensuring ethical and culturally responsive representation.
    • Ensure donors, partners, and the broader community are kept informed through newsletters, donor updates, impact reports, and targeted communications.
    • Collaborate with program staff to translate outcomes and community experiences into clear, compelling narratives for funders and supporters.
    • Align all development communications with organizational messaging, branding, and language access standards (Spanish/English as applicable).

    Community Information & Accountability

    • Support consistent information-sharing with community members regarding organizational growth, program impact, and opportunities for engagement.
    • Ensure transparency and accountability in reporting outcomes, use of funds, and organizational milestones.
    • Support public-facing communications tied to fundraising campaigns, events, and community initiatives, in collaboration with internal or external communications support.

    Data Management & Fundraising Systems

    • Serve as the in-house expert on the organization’s donor database/CRM.
    • Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and health of all donor, prospect, and fundraising data, including ongoing data hygiene and verification.
    • Create queries, segmented lists, dashboards, and reports to support donor cultivation, stewardship, recognition, and leadership decision-making.
    • Develop and document data management policies, protocols, and procedures; train staff and volunteers on proper system use.
    • Perform data imports, exports, audits, and clean-up as needed.
    • Coordinate with Finance and Operations to ensure alignment between fundraising data, accounting, and compliance requirements.

    Gift Processing & Compliance

    • Oversee processing of all gifts, including cash, credit cards, in-kind donations, stock, and sponsorships.
    • Ensure timely donor acknowledgements and receipts in compliance with IRS regulations and nonprofit best practices.
    • Track and steward in-kind gifts.
    • Coordinate with Finance to ensure reconciliation, internal controls, and compliance.

    Board, Leadership & Organizational Partnership

    • Support and strengthen Board engagement in fundraising through training, goal-setting, and accountability structures.
    • Provide regular fundraising, donor, and communications reports to the Executive Director and Board.
    • Help cultivate a culture of philanthropy and storytelling across staff, board, and volunteers.
    • Represent Latinos En Spokane at donor meetings, business gatherings, and community events.

    Events & Community-Based Fundraising

    • Lead or support fundraising events and campaigns, with clear return-on-investment analysis.
    • Integrate donor cultivation, stewardship, and storytelling into community and program events.
    • Evaluate and refine event strategies to prioritize long-term relationship-building over transactional fundraising.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive nonprofit development experience, with a proven track record in individual and business donor fundraising.
    • Demonstrated success managing donor databases/CRMs and using data to drive fundraising strategy.
    • Experience with grants management, reporting, and compliance.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate data and impact into compelling narratives.
    • High level of organization, discretion, and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, community-centered environment.
    • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
    • Deep alignment with Latinos En Spokane’s mission and values.
