    Berkeley Carroll is a Pre-K through grade 12 college-preparatory school of almost 1,000 students located in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in New York City.     The Berkeley Carroll School seeks an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to join the Berkeley Carroll facilities team in supporting multiple buildings in our Park Slope campus. This person will have experience in maintaining buildings and supervising teams.

    Responsibilities

    Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Supervise and lead the facilities team by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, providing training and guidance, and fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment. Ensure all work aligns with school policies, safety regulations, and maintenance standards.
    • Ensure team members adhere to established preventive maintenance schedules and perform preventative maintenance on buildings, as needed.
    • Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs; complete inspection and preventive maintenance reports, recommend and perform corrective maintenance as required.
    • Repair electrical lighting systems and fixtures, as needed.
    • Perform intermediate level plumbing work including the installation, repair, and replacement of plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, faucets, and pipes; clear obstructions from water and sewer lines, as needed.
    • Perform professional level of carpentry work including the repair of framing, walls, windows, doors, drywall, and other carpentry work, as needed.
    • Install, maintain, and repair a variety of coverings such as carpeting, tile, linoleum, and wood, as needed.
    • Operate, maintain, and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance, as needed.
    • Move furniture and equipment as required for maintenance and facility operations, as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Three to five years experience in facilities maintenance or as a general construction mechanic, or documented completion of trades coursework.
    • Knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in facilities maintenance and a variety of building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, and limited air conditioning.
    • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in building maintenance, reconstruction, and repair work.
    • Knowledge of basic electrical theory
    • Knowledge of preventive maintenance requirements and safe work practices.
    • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building and mechanical systems.
    • Knowledge of city policies, procedures, codes, and regulations related to facility maintenance and repair.
    • Ability to perform skilled maintenance and repairs across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, plastering, drywall, heating, mechanical systems, door hardware, keying, and emergency/exit lighting.
    • Ability to conduct safety inspections and take immediate corrective action to address life/safety issues.
    • Ability to diagnose and report building maintenance needs.
    • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, diagrams, and blueprints accurately.
    • Technological proficiency and comfort with digital tools required for communication and facility management tasks.
    • Ability to utilize computers and software platforms, including Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), for work order processing and documentation.
    • Ability to operate and maintain mechanical equipment.
    • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to maintain clean and organized job sites and maintenance shops.
    • Ability to demonstrate strong personal organization and time management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter in the absence of direct supervision.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate team members to achieve goals; sets clear expectations and lead by example.
    • Spanish preferred

    Must hold or obtain the following certifications:

    • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-01 (Fire Guard)
    • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-95 (Fire Alarm Systems)
    • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-12 (Sprinkler Systems)
    • FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-13 (Standpipe Systems)
    • OSHA 30-Hour Certification

    Schedule: Monday-Friday 7am to 4pm, with some Saturdays, Sundays, and evening work.

    Salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be offered commensurate with experience and credentials. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000. This full-time, in-person position is available for immediate hire.
