    Description

    About Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast

Mothers’ Milk Bank Northeast (MMBNE) is a nonprofit organization that saves babies’ lives by providing safe, pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals and families in need. We work with generous milk donors and dedicated healthcare partners to ensure that fragile newborns receive the nutrition they need to thrive.

We’re a small, mission-driven team that values collaboration, compassion, and excellence in everything we do.

    About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Operations and Facility Director to join our team! If you’re someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, motivating a team, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly and safely, this could be the perfect fit.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our Chief Operating Officer to oversee our daily milk processing and distribution operations, maintain our facility and equipment, and ensure that we always meet the highest food safety and compliance standards. You’ll lead a team of dedicated staff and interns, foster a positive work environment, and help us keep improving our systems and workflows.

    What You’ll Do

    Food Safety & Quality

      • Serve as our on-site safety manager, ensuring Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are always followed.
      • Oversee food safety controls, documentation, and process compliance.
      • Support the implementation of new procedures and equipment.

    Production & Distribution Oversight

      • Manage daily milk processing and pasteurization operations.
      • Ensure staffing levels meet production goals and safety requirements.
      • Oversee inventory, microbiological testing, and macronutrient analysis.
      • Coordinate milk distribution to hospitals and individual clients, resolving any order issues.

    Team Leadership

      • Supervise and support lab technicians, distribution staff, and interns.
      • Hold regular team meetings and one-on-ones to ensure strong communication and growth.
      • Recruit, train, and onboard new team members.

    Facility & Vendor Management

      • Keep our facility running smoothly by maintaining equipment and coordinating with vendors.
      • Lead special projects like equipment upgrades or office reorganizations.
      • Oversee IT operations and collaborate with our support team to ensure systems are working efficiently.

    Continuous Improvement

      • Work with the COO to document best practices and streamline workflows.
      • Support training and quality assurance initiatives.

    What We’re Looking For

      • Bachelor’s degree required.
      • At least 7 years of work experience, including 4+ years supervising staff.
      • Experience in a food production, health safety, or compliance-based setting preferred.
      • Project management and data management experience required.
      • SERV Safe or PCQI certification (or willingness to obtain).
      • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) and comfort with basic equipment operations.
      • A positive, energetic “let’s get it done” attitude — and a passion for building a great team culture.

    Physical Requirements:

This role involves regular lifting (up to 30 lbs), repetitive pouring, cleaning/sanitation, and time spent in cold storage environments.

    Benefits

Paid time off, paid holidays, health insurance, flex spending account, simple IRA with company match after 6 months of service

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Must be fluent in English.

    Location

    On-site
