    JOB SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Communications Manager, the Communications Associate will help implement MACA’s strategic communications plan by creating digital content, assisting in email and social media outreach, contributing to event promotion, and supporting MACA’s development efforts by identifying and amplifying engagement with private foundations and individual donors. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications and public policy in general and child advocacy in particular. The office for this position is located at 11 Beacon Street in Boston, MA, however the position can be located anywhere within the state. Travel within the state, including to the Boston office on occasion, is required.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Communications & Content Creation

    • Produce, schedule, and distribute social media content across Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, in alignment with MACA’s communications calendar and brand guidelines.
    • Draft and proof content for digital newsletters, legislative alerts, training announcements, and annualized campaigns.
    • Develop content for the MACA website and coordinate timely updates with the broader MACA team.

    Development & Donor Communications

    • Research and help track potential private funders, such as family foundations and individual donors.
    • Prepare targeted outreach emails, donor acknowledgment messages, and storytelling campaigns to demonstrate the impact of MACA’s work.
    • Monitor the cadence of consistent donor communications and engagement throughout the year.
    • Assist with maintaining and optimizing MACA’s donor data base for effective outgoing communications.

    Project & Event Support

    • Support the production of MACA’s annual conferences, MDT Summits, and special events by developing promotional materials and supporting logistical communications.
    • Assist with preparation of the agency’s Annual Report.

    Other duties as required: Please note that the Massachusetts Children’s Alliance is an expanding agency with many exciting start-up projects and activities which require flexibility. This job posting provides a general overview but not an exhaustive description of the duties required.

    MINIMUM PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, nonprofit Management, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
    • Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) and scheduling tools (e.g., Buffer, Later, Hootsuite).
    • Base understanding of the benefits, limitations, and ethical implications of using AI.
    • Basic graphic design skills using Canva or similar tools preferred.
    • Experience or interest in nonprofit fundraising, donor communication, or grant prospecting preferred.
    • Demonstrated interest in child advocacy, social justice, or nonprofit work preferred.
