    Founded in 2015, Cascadia Art Museum is dedicated to celebrating the rich tradition of Northwest visual arts and design from 1870–1970. Through exhibitions, publications, education programs, and community partnerships, we connect people to the art and stories of our region in meaningful and welcoming ways.

    Reports to the Director of Operations

    Works closely with the Executive Director, Director of Education, staff and volunteers

    Schedule: Wednesday–Sunday, 40 hours per week

    Location: In person, Edmonds, WA

    Employment Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt

    Position Summary

    The Museum Store & Volunteer Program Manager plays a vital dual role at Cascadia Art Museum, overseeing daily museum store operations while also managing and supporting the museum’s volunteer program. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a public-facing environment, and takes pride in creating positive, well-organized experiences for visitors and volunteers alike.

    This role is central to the museum’s visitor experience and community engagement. The Manager ensures the museum store runs smoothly and reflects Cascadia’s mission, while also fostering a strong, supported, and well-coordinated volunteer community that is essential to museum operations and programs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Museum Store Management & Visitor Experience
    • Provide exceptional customer service and help create a welcoming, engaging experience for all museum visitors.
    • Oversee daily operations of the Museum Store, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and sales reconciliation.
    • Manage inventory: receive and process new merchandise, maintain accurate records, and coordinate periodic inventory counts with volunteers.
    • Work with local artists and vendors on consignment and product selection aligned with the museum’s mission.
    • Support and help organize monthly Art Walks and special retail events, including artist coordination and store setup.
    • Use point-of-sale systems (Shopify preferred) to process transactions and track sales.
    • Train, schedule, and supervise museum store volunteers.

    Volunteer Program Coordination

    • Manage day-to-day volunteer communications, scheduling, and recordkeeping.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, ensuring clear communication and timely follow-up.
    • Coordinate volunteer recruitment, onboarding, interviews, and training.
    • Provide on-call support for volunteers during museum hours, programs, school tours, and events.
    • Coordinate volunteer staffing for public programs, education activities, and special events.
    • Plan and lead Quarterly and Monthly Volunteer Council Meetings
    • Offer basic technology support to volunteers as needed.
    • Develop and maintain volunteer resources, documentation, and training materials to ensure consistency and continuity.
    • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive volunteer culture.

    Additional Support

    Provide occasional support for off-hour events, exhibition openings, or special programs.

    Assist with other duties as needed to support museum operations and mission-based work.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow projects through to completion.
    • Experience working with volunteers, retail operations, or similar community-focused roles.
    • Comfort with technology, including point-of-sale systems and volunteer management software (Shopify and Volgistics experience a plus).
    • Dependable, collaborative, and confident working independently during public hours.
    • Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds.
    • Minimum age: 18 years.
