    Position Summary:

    The New York State Community Action Association (NYSCAA) represents 47 community action agencies covering every county in New York State. We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic individual to lead our communications and event planning efforts as our Communications and Events Coordinator. Reporting directly to our CEO, you will raise public awareness of NYSCAA and our members, ignite community passion, and expand our already successful annual events. This full-time, exempt role which offers a competitive salary with opportunities to grow and learn.

    The New York State Community Action Association has worked to expand the capacity of the community action network statewide, delivering critical training and technical assistance, providing engaging conferences as well as online and in-person professional development and learning opportunities throughout the year.

    About the Role:

    The Communications and Events Coordinator will lead NYSCAA's communications strategy to elevate visibility, lead events planning, and support development, and advocacy efforts. This leadership role will work cross-functionally with the CEO and NYSCAA staff to shape public messaging, strengthen brand identity, and tell powerful stories about our work and impact. The Communications and Events Coordinator will oversee content and branding across digital and print platforms, and be responsible for external communications, including media relations, social media, and public engagement.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Develop and implement a comprehensive, mission-aligned communications and events strategy.
      • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all materials and platforms.
      • Lead the creation of digital and print content, including newsletters, press releases, blog posts, the annual Impact Report, and promotional materials.
      • Oversee the organization's website content and coordinate timely updates.
      • Manage and implement social media strategies across key platforms.
      • Support efforts to amplify the organization's advocacy initiatives
      • Collaborate with the development team to support communications for fundraising campaigns, and donor engagement.
      • Promote NYSCAA events, training opportunities, initiatives, and outreach activities.
      • Coordinate with external vendors and media contacts to support communications goals.
      • Track and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., web traffic, social media engagement, email open rates) to inform and improve communication strategies.

    Skills and Education:

      • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
      • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or a related role; five (5) or more years of relevant experience preferred.
      • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
      • Proficiency with tools like Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, WordPress, and social media management platforms.
      • Strategic thinker with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
      • Strong organizational and project management skills.
      • Familiarity with New York’s Community Action Network and/or anti-poverty programs.

    Position Details:

    • Status: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), Monday–Friday
    • Compensation: $65,000–$70,000 annually
    • Benefits: Eligible for NYSCAA benefits
    • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
    • Travel: Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel may be required
