Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator plays a vital role in weaving together key initiatives and ensuring alignment across NLPP’s programs. Acting as a central bridge between the organization and the community, this person helps cultivate cohesive, effective, and neighbor-centered efforts that advance NLPP’s mission.

Pay and Benefits:
$50,000 / year with $200 monthly fringe benefit stipend for health and wellness. NLPP provides funding for personal and professional development that aligns with and supports the organization’s strategic goals.
Status:
Non-Exempt, full time
Postion Location:
This is a primarily remote position, with required in-person participation in meetings, programs, and community events. The successful candidate must be able to commute to sites across West Philadelphia and occasionally to other areas within the city.
Role Expectations:
- Design and carry out grant-funded projects that advance NLPP’s urban farming and land justice goals, in close collaboration with staff and community partners
- Lead coordination of a two-year, community-driven green space planning initiative, ensuring inclusive engagement, timely implementation, and alignment with NLPP’s broader vision
- Coordinate and manage outreach events and activities
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders
- Design and share compelling outreach materials—including brochures, flyers, and newsletters—that reflect NLPP’s mission and engage diverse community audiences
- Leverage social media platforms to amplify NLPP’s visibility, promote events and initiatives, and foster meaningful online engagement with neighbors and supporters
- Track activities and outcomes as needed
- Organize and facilitate informational sessions and workshops
- Respond to inquiries from the public and provide information about programs and services as needed
- Support grant reporting, grant writing and other fundraising activities as needed
- Support volunteer coordination and other resource management as needed
- Participate in and support organizational meetings, retreats, events, programs and planning
Qualifications:
Formal education (such as a college degree) is valued but not required. We welcome candidates with a high school diploma or GED and a mix of continuing education, hands-on experience, or community-based learning relevant to the role.
- Experience:
- At least three years of effective project management in which planning, implementation and post-project evaluation activities took place;
- Knowledge of place-based initiatives, urban farming, environmental justice, and/or land justice work a plus.
- Experience in outreach, community engagement, or community organizing; deep understanding of meaningful, authentic community relationship-building that support power-sharing approaches
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting
- Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, environmental, and social justice, with deep respect for people of all cultures, identities, and lived experiences.
- Familiarity with NLPP’s mission, programs, and values—or a willingness to learn
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events and programming
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit
- Ability to design and manage outreach materials, including flyers, newsletters, and digital content
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant tools (e.g., Canva, Google Workspace, social media platforms)
- Keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to analyze data and evaluate outreach efforts—or learn how
- Adaptability and creative problem-solving in dynamic community settings
Additional Preferences:
- Lives or has lived within the Haddington neighborhood or in a nearby neighborhood.
- Fundraising, grant writing, reporting, and development experience
- Event planning experience
Working Conditions:
This position calls for flexibility throughout the growing season, with some early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Our work happens outdoors in an urban setting, rain or shine—so a love of fresh air and resilience in all weather are key. The Program Coordinator must be comfortable navigating outdoor environments such as farms and parks, which may include uneven terrain. The role may occasionally require lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds as part of event setup, garden work, or program support.
