    Company Description

    The National Food Museum, a start-up, looks at the world through the lens of food. Through exhibits and programming, the Museum will explore topics ranging from the history of the human diet to the marketing of food to children, but the special emphasis will be on the impact of what we eat on public health and the planet's health. As fund-raising proceeds, the Museum is exploring initial steppingstones to a physical facility, such as pop-up, traveling, or virtual exhibitions.

    Role Description

    This is a half-time Deputy Director position, and the role is fully remote, though living in the Washington, DC, metro area is a strong plus. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in museum administration or cultural nonprofits, a strong record of fundraising success, and the creativity to bring innovative marketing and engagement strategies to life. Responsibilities include fundraising, overseeing museum education programs, managing strategic planning initiatives, communicating with major donors, addressing conservation issues, and ensuring efficient daily operations.

    Qualifications

    • Strong expertise in museum management
    • Experience in strategic planning, including the ability to develop and implement organizational strategies
    • Strong experience in successful fundraising
    • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with board members, volunteers, and outsiders
    • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Museum Studies, Environmental or Health Sciences, History, Education, Fundraising, or a related field is preferred
    • Experience in a museum, cultural heritage institution, or educational organization is highly desirable
