    JuxtaHub’s Convergent Makerspace (CMS) is a key program in our mission and our Convergent Makerspace Director will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and development of our CMS – a unique collaborative environment focused on the intersection of technology and art that provides tools, resources, and training for innovation, creation, and learning. Duties, qualifications, and responsibilities include:

    • Manage day-to-day makerspace operations: Oversee safety, scheduling, inventory, equipment maintenance, materials and cleanliness of the space.
    • Program development and delivery: Develop, coordinate, and teach youth and adult programs, workshops, and establish community and school partnerships.
    • Staff and volunteer supervision: Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, instructors, staff, and interns involved in CMS activities.
    • Outreach and engagement: Foster relationships with local community partners, businesses and external organizations; build awareness and engagement through marketing and events.
    • Budget and records management: Oversee budgeting, purchasing, grants, membership, and record-keeping related to CMS operations. Includes lifecycle managing Convergent Creation Capabilities (CCCs) consisting of toolchains, pipelines and workflows.
    • Safety and training: Create and provide safety and operational training for users; ensure a safe and inclusive CMS environment.
    • Facilitate collaboration: Support a collaborative and creative environment, encouraging teamwork and innovation among users.
    • Strategic planning: Contribute to strategic vision, annual goals, and alignment of CMS mission with broader JuxtaHub objectives. This includes overall P&L responsibility for the CMS program.
    • Other duties as assigned: Carry out additional tasks related to makerspace success as directed by JuxtaHub leadership.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; STEM degree preferred. Master’s or equivalent graduate experience preferred.
    • Five or more years of experience managing a makerspace or similar environment.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational, and leadership ability.
    • Experience developing and delivering educational curricula or instructional activities. Knowledge of pedagogical and andragogical frameworks and best practices for educating students & adult learners. Corporate training and professional workshop exposure. Hackathon experience or exposure.
    • Significant and proven experience with many of the following CMS technologies and capabilities including: 3D printers & scanners, 3D CAD software platforms & tools, laser cutters, vinyl & paper cutters, educational robotics, electronics fabrication & repair, digital graphics & animation, virtual/mixed reality (Meta Quest, HTC), augmented reality (Snap Spectacles, Magic Leap), software development and AI vibe coding, wood working/hand tools, video/audio podcasting, video production & post production, video/photo media conversion to digital, digital textile printing & embroidery.
    • Experience in community outreach, grant writing, and partnership building.
    • Ability to work independently, coordinate multiple programs, and manage budgets.
    • Experience with innovation and entrepreneur coaching, preferably including prototyping, fabrication and small-scale manufacturing experience (metal, electronics, wood, digital etc) or skunkworks environments.
    • Capacity to work a flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends
    • Experience with Pennsylvania STEELS or NGSS standards.
    • Successful candidate will be required to comply with PA Acts 153 and 15 by providing/obtaining a PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check Clearance, and FBI Federal Criminal History Record Clearance.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to occasionally lift equipment (up to 50lbs), perform tasks like bending, climbing, or standing for events or workshops.

    This role is both administrative and hands-on, requiring a versatile self-starter to lead educational programs, manage operations, supervise staff, and drive the JuxtaHub CMS mission in the community. The position reports to the Chief Programming Officer.
