    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences is a member organization that is currently seeking a candidate for the position of Associate Director of Marketing and Membership. This is a manager-in-training position.

    This employee oversees the Marketing and Membership Departments and works collaboratively with staff to promote the AAFCS and its programs and services. This individual will be expected to manage one or more staff, lead projects and programs, travel two or more times per year, present at stakeholder events, attend Board meetings and AAFCS in person events, and engage with customers and stakeholders.

    This full-time position will work remotely and will report to the Executive Director.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or similar. Or bachelor’s degree and six or more years of experience in communications and membership relations.

    At least three years of experience in membership relations and at least two years of experience in marketing is preferred.

    Skillful in social media platforms and online design (photo and/or video) tools, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Canva, Google Workspace, and/or Association Management Systems (AMS) with the affinity to learn new software and systems. Familiarity with Association Anywhere, Higher Logic, Mailchimp, Sprout Social, and/or Salesforce is preferred.

    Demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

    Demonstrated ability to compose, edit, and deliver high quality communications.

    Experience in anticipating deadlines and handling multiple, competing priorities to meet

    concurrent deadlines.

    Ability to work well both individually and as a team member.

    Sound judgment and honesty with a commitment to a “transparent” style of organizational culture. Knowledge of SEO/SEM and analytics is preferred. Experience developing and overseeing implementation of marketing campaigns is preferred.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Marketing

    Oversee the development and implementation of communication and marketing plans to create meaningful and measurable value and impact including:

    Design, development, delivery, management, and measurement of all strategic and targeted digital, video, and print communications.

    Development and implementation of engaging content.

    Management and update of the AAFCS website.

    Market research and competitive analysis to continually identify ways to improve member digital engagement.

    Production of the Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences in partnership with the AAFCS staff editor.

    Affiliate website maintenance to include the provision of training and support to affiliates.

    Enforcement of AAFCS copyrights and copyright licenses.

    Oversee Marketing and Membership budget development, monitoring, deadlines, and deliverables.

    Membership

    Oversee membership programs to include enforcement of membership processes, membership campaigns, special projects, and member engagement and outreach.

    Oversee management of the awards committee, student unit, and AAFCS Affiliates.

    Serve as liaison to AAFCS committees, communities, units, or other groups as applicable.

    WORK REQUIREMENTS

    Willing to work remotely.

    Minimum travel is required. This may include travel to the national headquarters, the Annual Conference, Fall Leadership Summit, partner organization conferences and events, or state conferences or workshops.

    The employee must have normal visual acuity at near and far distance with correction and hear the spoken word. The employee must be fluent in English. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to work at a computer. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or touch objects, tools, or controls and to talk fluently. This position may occasionally require the employee to walk unaided, bend, stoop, reach above their head, have use of fine and gross motor skills, and lift or move heavy objects, equipment, or boxes.
