    Description

    About Us

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington's mission is to support families from pregnancy through the transitions of early parenthood with relationship-based care, evidence-based instruction and resources, and integrative health services for lactation. As a smaller organization, we’re looking forward to bringing on a visionary leader to advance our programming and help carry out strategic plans.

    The Role

The Center Director is the senior executive responsible for leading the Breastfeeding Center’s strategic direction, operational excellence, and organizational sustainability. This role oversees all aspects of the Center’s programming, partnerships, fundraising, and administration, ensuring alignment with the mission and values. The Director serves as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and leads a collaborative team, including a Practice Manager and Clinical Director, to advance maternal and child health across the region.

This role is ideal for a leader who excels in a dynamic, evolving organization—someone who can roll up their sleeves to get things done while also thinking systematically about operations, partnerships, and the Center’s long-term growth.

    What You'll Do

    • Lead the development and execution of strategic plans in collaboration with the Board and senior staff
    • Ensure operational alignment with long-term goals, mission, and community needs

Build Partnerships & Represent the Center

    • Represent the Center at events, conferences, and media opportunities
    • Cultivate relationships with healthcare providers, nonprofits, agencies, and corporate partners
    • Strengthen the Center’s reputation as a regional leader in maternal and child health

    Drive Program & Organizational Development

    • Align outreach efforts with program goals and service delivery
    • Plan and implement initiatives that increase engagement and deepen community impact
    • Support staff in implementing high-quality, trauma-informed care and culturally responsive services

    Fundraising & Financial Stewardship

    • Oversee fundraising strategy, including grants, sponsorships, donor cultivation, and events.
    • Ensure financial sustainability through sound budgeting, reporting, and resource development.
    • Work closely with the Board on fiscal planning and accountability.

    Governance & Compliance

    • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, facilitating communication and strategic alignment.
    • Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards across all operations.
    • Track and report key performance indicators related to impact, growth, and sustainability.

    Organizational Culture & Team Leadership

    • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture.
    • Mentor and support staff in leadership development, professional growth, and cross-functional collaboration.
    • Model values of integrity, transparency, and community-centered leadership.

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years of executive leadership experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or maternal-child health sectors
    • Proven success in strategic planning, fundraising, and organizational management
    • Strong public representation, partnership development, and stakeholder engagement skills
    • Experience overseeing programs, budgets, and cross-functional teams
    • Passion for maternal health, lactation support, and family wellness
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
