    • Budget: $20,000 (max) + $5,000 for participant incentives

    Project Overview

SAADA, the leading source for South Asian American history, seeks a highly skilled and experienced Focus Group Consultant.

The consultant will organize and conduct focus groups in five non-South Asian immigrant communities in Philadelphia, consisting of at least 10 participants each. (Note: The consultant need not be based in Philadelphia, but the focus groups must be conducted in-person in Philadelphia.) By understanding the storytelling needs of immigrant communities, we will determine the viability of expanding Memory Bucket—SAADA’s forthcoming intergenerational storytelling board game—into a broader market.

Support for this research project has been provided by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

    Scope of Work

    • Partner with SAADA to identify 5 non-South Asian immigrant communities for focus group feedback
    • Organize and facilitate focus groups, consisting of at least 10 participants each, to understand storytelling needs, preservation challenges, and service preferences in immigrant communities

    Deliverable

A community insights report that identifies key themes, shared challenges, and points of convergence and divergence in intergenerational storytelling, heritage preservation, and service preferences across non–South Asian immigrant communities, drawing on focus group feedback to inform future program design and partnerships.

    Required Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience in qualitative research and demonstrated work with immigrant communities
    • Strong qualitative research and facilitation skills
    • Proven cultural competency across diverse immigrant populations

    • A detailed proposal including methodology, timeline, and team composition.
    • A budget that shows a clear and detailed breakdown estimate of fees for services. If you are not based in Philadelphia, please be sure to include consultant travel costs to Philadelphia for the focus groups. Note that SAADA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. If your estimate is discounted from commercial rates and/or includes volunteer work time, please be sure to note this clearly in the proposal.
    • Work samples from 2-3 past focus group projects, involving data analysis and work with with immigrant or underrepresented communities
    • A list of three references who can speak to your experience with conducting focus groups and cultural competency
