    Beyond Literacy is Philadelphia’s largest adult and family literacy nonprofit, serving thousands of learners each year through GED/HSE preparation, ESOL, digital skills, and workforce pathway programs. We work across Philadelphia’s diverse communities to help adults move from learning to earning, and we partner with employers, funders, and public agencies to expand economic mobility.

    Role Summary (70% Development / 30% Communications)

    The Development & Communications Coordinator provides essential executional support to Beyond Literacy’s Advancement function, with a primary focus on grant coordination, development operations, and donor stewardship (≈70%), and a complementary focus on stakeholder communications and brand-aligned content (≈30%). This role ensures high-quality, timely materials and processes that support fundraising success and consistent, on-brand communications. Strategy, prioritization, and final approvals remain with senior leadership.

    This position is ideal for an early- to mid-career professional who is highly organized, a strong writer, comfortable juggling multiple deadlines, and eager to grow in nonprofit development while maintaining strong communications execution.

    Key Responsibilities

    Development (≈70%)

    Grant Support & Coordination

    • Maintain and manage the grants calendar, deadlines, and reporting schedules
    • Draft and compile grant components (organizational descriptions, program narratives, budgets in coordination with finance, and attachments)
    • Track grant submissions, awards, declines, and reporting requirements
    • Support post-award reporting by gathering data, narratives, and documentation from internal teams
    • Maintain a library of updated boilerplate language, metrics, and standard attachments

    Development Operations & Systems

    • Enter and maintain accurate donor, funder, and grant records in the CRM
    • Support gift processing, acknowledgements, and reporting workflows
    • Assist with development dashboards and progress tracking
    • Support audits, compliance requests, and documentation needs

    Donor Stewardship & Fundraising Support

    • Draft donor-facing materials such as acknowledgements, stewardship updates, impact notes, and event-related content
    • Support fundraising campaigns to key target audiences
    • Assist with event auction solicitation, sponsor coordination, and on-site support as needed
    • Represent Beyond Literacy at community and corporate engagement initiatives and special events

    Communications (≈30%)

    Stakeholder & Brand Communications

    • Create, coordinate, and disseminate engaging digital content, including website updates, social media, blogs, email communications, and event content
    • Be responsible for managing Beyond Literacy’s social media accounts, including content planning, posting, and basic performance tracking
    • Ensure consistent voice, branding, messaging, and accessibility across all external communications, including social media
    • Support preparation of donor and partner briefings, talking points, and meeting follow-ups
    • Translate internal information into clear, funder- and community-ready materials

    Design & AI-Enabled Production

    • Create polished visual assets using Canva Pro (one-pagers, social graphics, slides, event materials, impact snapshots)
    • Use AI tools such as NotebookLM and other approved tools to summarize, draft, and adapt content with strong human review
    • Maintain templates, style guides, and brand assets to improve speed, consistency, and quality

    Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Coordinate with program staff to gather data, outcomes, and stories for grants, reports, and communications
    • Support alignment between Advancement, Finance, and Programs without owning evaluation design
    • Collaborate with team members on projects and initiatives as needed

    Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • 4-year bachelor's degree, preferred
    • 1–3 (up to 2–4 acceptable) years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, grants, or related fields
    • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills; able to adapt tone for different audiences
    • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities, sometimes with little notice, and meet or exceed deadlines
    • Proficiency with digital platforms such as Microsoft 365; experience with email marketing tools (e.g., Bloomerang, Constant Contact), WordPress, and Salesforce strongly preferred
    • Advanced design proficiency with Canva Pro strongly preferred; comfort with AI-assisted tools such as NotebookLM
    • Strong interpersonal skills; highly adaptable and able to work effectively across cultures and within diverse service communities
    • Confidentiality, honesty, and discretion required

    • Ability to work some nights and weekends, as needed for events and deadlines
    • Must reside in Greater Philadelphia region
