    Overview

    The Global Center for Indigenous Leadership & Lifeways (GCILL) supports long- and

    short-term projects that educate and inform people about Indigenous ways, raise

    human consciousness, and co-create a harmonious relationship with Mother Earth. The

    core focus of GCILL is to uplift and share the messages of Elders and wisdomkeepers,

    including GCILL’s founder, Ilarion Merculieff, while helping one another—our “other

    selves”—and Mother Earth.

    The Interim Executive Director (IED) for GCILL will provide executive leadership,

    including strategic planning and organizational management, for an interim period of

    one to two years. Their leadership should be a stabilizing force during a time of

    organizational change, overseeing daily operations to maintain momentum and meet

    the organizational mission and goals, supporting staff, working closely with the Elders

    Advisory Council, and maintaining financial stability. The IED also plays a key role in

    fundraising, community development, event planning, and managing outreach activities

    to maintain and strengthen the organization’s presence and relationships. The IED

    should have a demonstrated capacity to facilitate a graceful process of change for an

    organization.

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum five years experience as an Executive Director
    • Minimum two years experience working with Indigenous Elders, or for Native-led projects, in North America or worldwide
    • Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership that honors both Indigenous and Western worldviews and perspectives
    • Demonstrated sk ills in management, problem-solving, analytical thinking, and interpersonal communication
    • Demonstrated ability to advance a process while following the lead of Indigenous Peoples and/or Elders
    • Align with the mission and vision of GCILL
    • Demonstrated capacity to lead a remote team, while being self-directed and flexible

    Desired Qualifications

    • Minimum two years experience in transitional leadership
    • Experience network building for a shared purpose

    Key Responsibilities

    • Advance GCILL mission and vision
    • Act as a strategic advisor and thinking partner to the Founder
    • Oversee organizational transformation and change management initiatives
    • Convene and support the Elders Advisory Council
    • Oversee programs and project activities, business operations, finances and reporting
    • Maintain collaborative, clear workflows and systems
    • Ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and internal standards
    • Maintain and build relationships and partnerships that strengthen GCILL
    • Facilitate process to ensure a smooth handover to a permanent leader, or other TBD
    • Other as mutually agreed

    Hours & Compensation: This is a quarter-time contract position, average 10 hours per week.

    Starting rate $50/hour, or $26,000. (FTE $104,000); increases commensurate with experience.

    Work hours must be compatible with Alaska Standard Time, Mon–Fri; Occasional weekends.

    Start Date: February 2026

    Terms: This is a part-time, remote position. All new hires are subject to a 90-day review period.

    This is a contract position. This position reports to the Founder.
