    Description

    The Coalition on Homelessness, San Francisco, established in 1987, is dedicated to actively engaging low-income individuals and frontline staff in shaping, evaluating, and implementing public policies and services that provide lasting solutions to poverty. Our organization stands out for its unique composition, with the active involvement of homeless individuals in every aspect, from volunteers to staff and leadership positions combined with systemic change-oriented campaigns that have won substantive gains for thousands of our impoverished neighbors.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Campaign work including contribute to the creation flyers, craft messaging and talking points, mobilize for and attend hearings, press conferences, and rallies.
    2. Set and carry out meetings with policymakers,
    3. Conduct a minimum of four hours of comprehensive outreach to families residing in residential hotel rooms, shelters, and drop-in centers, including some evening shifts.
    4. Assist families in completing relevant forms, offer referral information, and perform family assessments. Maintain detailed reports on completed tasks.
    5. Attend paid training sessions on outreach strategies and related topics throughout the year.
    6. Collaborate with your supervisor to develop a weekly outreach plan and work closely with program staff. Conduct outreach to shelters and Single Room Occupancy (SRO) facilities.
    7. Engage in and lead Housing Justice staff meetings, workgroups, and collaborative events and retreats.
    8. Submit monthly reports regarding the progress of families.
    9. Advocate alongside families for housing stability and related matters

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Proficient in computer usage, including Google Workspace.
    • Leadership experience in previous roles or projects.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Organizational know-how to manage tasks efficiently and prioritize responsibilities.
    • Excellent people skills, with the ability to engage and interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Collaboration talent to work seamlessly with a team and foster a supportive work environment.
    • Problem-solving abilities to identify challenges and propose innovative solutions.

    Preferred:

    • Bilingual Spanish/English
    • Community Organizing Experience

    In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team and actively engage with a heavily impacted community. Empathy and a thorough understanding of the complex issues surrounding homelessness and poverty are essential for success in this important work.
