    Position Description

    A Faith-Rooted Organizer (“Organizer”) educates, organizes, and mobilizes faith and community

    leaders to engage in economic justice campaigns. The Organizer builds and leads a committee

    of faith leaders who are prepared and committed to standing alongside workers and working-class families in their struggle for dignity and justice in the workplace. The Organizer will

    consistently reach out to new faith leaders and communities to develop a strong, dynamic, and

    diverse leadership base. The Organizer will engage in regular strategy sessions with coalition

    partners and faith leaders to organize events, actions, and meetings that will further the work of

    justice in Orange County and Long Beach.

    Primary Functions

    Under the supervision of the Labor Program Director, the Organizer will:

    • Lead efforts for faith community outreach, recruitment, and education;
    • Build committee membership and develop committee leadership on an ongoing basis;
    • Plan and lead regular (i.e., monthly) committee meetings;
    • Build relationships and coordinate with coalition partners;
    • Coordinate the content and logistics for public events and large-scale mobilizations;
    • Participate in leading Faith-Rooted Organizing trainings; and
    • Work cooperatively and creatively with other members of the CLUE team on other projects

    (actions, campaigns, committees, events, etc.), as assigned.

    Skills and Qualities

    The Organizer must demonstrate a commitment to economic justice, the labor movement, and

    faith-rooted advocacy, and be willing to work non-traditional hours and weekends when

    necessary, including during religious holidays. They must be capable of establishing and

    maintaining deep and numerous relationships and have a gift for strategic thinking and planning.

    They must be flexible, open-minded, cross-culturally competent, a motivated self-starter, and

    able to work independently. The position also calls for excellent reporting skills, as well as

    strong analytical, written, verbal communication, and computer skills. The Organizer should

    have familiarity and confidence in interacting in a non-judgmental fashion with various

    communities of faith, including those with whom they differ, as well as documented experience

    and strong skills in community organizing, outreach, and engagement. They must have an ever-

    improving track record of leading a team. As an organization serving multiple counties,

    organizers must have a reasonable flexibility with regard to geographic focus and assignment.
