    Development Director

    Next Step | Cambridge, MA (Hybrid)

    Full-Time | $85,000 to $95,000/year | Flexible Schedule | Unlimited PTO

    Next Step is seeking a passionate and strategic Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts and help expand our impact on young people living with serious chronic illnesses.

    We empower teens and young adults (ages 12–29) facing cancer, HIV, sickle cell disease, and other conditions to envision and create their brightest future. Through community, music, and mentorship, our free programs help shift their mindset from “Why me?” to “What’s next?”

    Key Responsibilities

      • Design and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy
      • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners
      • Supervise staff in marketing, communications, grants, and events
      • Oversee donor communications, grant writing, and special events
      • Serve as a spokesperson for Next Step in meetings and public forums
      • Act as Board Clerk (meeting coordination and minutes)

    Ideal Candidate

      • Proven success in nonprofit fundraising and donor cultivation
      • Strong leadership and communication skills
      • Experience with CRM systems, grant writing, and event planning
      • Collaborative, mission-driven, and comfortable speaking to diverse audiences
      • Deep understanding of and commitment to Next Step’s mission

    Compensation & Benefits

      • Salary: $85,000 to $95,000 annually
      • Medical Insurance: 70% employer-sponsored
      • Retirement Plan: 403(b) through Principal Life
      • Paid Time Off: Unlimited PTO policy
      • Schedule: Hybrid, flexible hours with occasional evenings/weekends (comp time provided)
