    Description

    ABOUT THE LEAGUE

The League for Safer Streets supports and organizes system-impacted individuals to undergo personal transformation, drive lasting change in their communities, and influence public policies that impact their communities.

In its 8+ year history, The League has funded its operations mostly through government grants and some individual contributions. Given the current landscape and The League’s growth aspirations, it intends to both grow and diversify its funding sources.

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PHILANTHROPY STRATEGY CONSULTANT (CONTRACT, PART-TIME)

This role is not advisory-only. The ideal candidate will actively implement fundraising efforts while building the systems necessary to sustain growth. The Consultant will work closely with the CEO and advisors to design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that strengthens and diversifies revenue across government grants, private foundations, individual donors, and the development of an emerging major gifts strategy appropriate to the organization’s stage of growth in 2026 and potentially beyond depending on the success of the collaboration.

The League is looking for a partner to:

    1. Design and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that diversifies revenue across government grants, private foundations, individual donors, and the thoughtful development of an emerging major gifts strategy appropriate to the organization’s stage of growth
    2. Work collaboratively to define the scope and pace of execution; we expect the consultant to engage in direct outreach, grant development and submission, donor cultivation, and to support League team members who are engaged in fundraising activities
    3. Develop and implement an early-stage major donor cultivation and stewardship approach, including identifying prospective major donors, supporting solicitation efforts, and building a pipeline for multi-year commitments
    4. Create fundraising materials to support outreach and donor engagement
    5. Design and produce an annual report that communicates impact and strengthens donor relationships
    6. Conduct research and landscape analysis of potential Virginia, regional, and Federal funding opportunities across government, private foundations, and individual giving
    7. Map and implement the full donation process (receiving funds, acknowledging gifts, stewarding donors, ensuring timely documentation, etc.)
    8. Manage and optimize the CRM system to ensure accurate tracking of donations, donor communications, acknowledgement letters, and long-term engagement

    Compensation/Budget:

This is a part-time, contract position requiring an estimated commitment of 10–20 hours per week. The anticipated annual compensation for this engagement is approximately $40,000, commensurate with experience and scope of work.

The League is open to structuring the engagement as a monthly retainer or agreed-upon hourly equivalent, with final terms determined through a mutually beneficial agreement.
