    Description

The Environmental Investigation Agency US (EIA US) is a 501(c)(3) independent, international, non-profit advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., with proven records of triggering and affecting systemic change to protect the Earth’s environment. For four decades, EIA has established unique methods to drive change – including pioneering the use of undercover investigative techniques to expose environmental crimes. These crimes include illegal trade in endangered wildlife, illegal logging and associated trade in illegal timber, human rights, and environmental violations in the extractives sector, and the trade in both climate-damaging and ozone layer-depleting gasses.

    Position description:

EIA US is seeking a talented and highly motivated Fundraising and Development Associate to join one of the most dynamic advocacy teams in Washington, D.C. today. As part of the Operations Department, this position will provide centralized coordination for all fundraising activities, supporting and facilitating prospect research, donor stewardship, and cross-team alignment. This position will work closely with the Executive Director, campaign teams, and the Grants team to ensure consistent communication, tracking, and follow-through on fundraising priorities. This position will be based in Washington, D.C., with flexibility for hybrid work options.

    Main Roles and Responsibilities:

    • Conduct prospect research to identify funding opportunities - including foundations, high-net-worth individuals, family charities, and government grants - in alignment with organizational and campaign goals.
    • Maintain clear systems for tracking prospects and provide timely research insights and recommendations to departmental and campaign teams.
    • Coordinate closely with campaign teams, regularly attending meetings to ensure cross-organizational visibility into fundraising priorities, opportunities, and needs.
    • Contribute ideas and feedback to inform an organization-wide fundraising strategy, and support with day-to-day implementation.
    • Collaborate with the Grants team to track deadlines, renewals, reporting requirements, and proposal logistics, ensuring timely submissions and strong internal coordination.
    • Support prospective donor engagement across campaign and grant teams.
    • Maintain and utilize the constituent relationship management (CRM) software to update donor information, generate donation reports, and analyze donor outreach performance to improve donor retention.
    • Support donation processing, including mail collection, check deposits, and entering offline gifts into the CRM.
    • Support donor stewardship by generating timely acknowledgments and tax receipts, drafting routine donor correspondence, and assisting with appeal campaigns and other donor engagement touchpoints.
    • Coordinate with the Communications team on content for quarterly newsletters, annual impact reports, and digital fundraising products to support and amplify fundraising activities.
    • Stay current on trends in philanthropy and emerging fundraising strategies to strengthen organizational fundraising capacity and effectiveness.
    • Provide general operational and administrative support for development and cross-departmental coordination as needed.

    Essential Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as business or public administration, nonprofit management, or philanthropic studies, or an equivalent combination of certifications and relevant courses.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of demonstrated fundraising experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting, with experience in prospect research and donor stewardship.
    • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail in producing high-quality written materials.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize disparate information, multiple activities, and competing priorities.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex information, organize multiple projects and deadlines, and anticipate and resolve problems effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and locations, as well as independently when needed.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of efficiency, confidentiality, and professionalism in a fast-paced and evolving work environment.

    Other Desirable Qualifications:

    • Proficiency with CRM systems, such as DonorPerfect, is preferred.
    • Experience developing and supporting digital and direct mail fundraising campaigns.
    • Previous experience with prospect research related platforms is preferred.
    • Foreign language skills, specifically in Spanish or French, are a plus.

    Commitment to DEI and decolonization

EIA strives to integrate values of equity and fairness, inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability into our work, which includes bringing an intentional racial justice analysis to our programmatic work and organizational structure, and decolonizing our work to challenge systems of oppression and amplify the voices of Indigenous people and local communities.

We are seeking candidates who have a commitment to engage in this ongoing process and work with us to create a just and inclusive work environment and world.
