As a Peer Supporter, you'll provide compassionate, individualized coaching and navigation support to pregnant and postpartum people across Los Angeles County. Drawing on your own lived experience and using a peer-to-peer approach, you'll help reduce stigma, ease symptoms, and foster healing and connection in the communities that need it most.

This is more than a job—it's an opportunity to be a trusted guide for families navigating one of life's most vulnerable moments.

    Core Responsibilities

    Direct Support & Coaching

    • Provide virtual peer support through calls, texts, emails, and video sessions to pregnant and postpartum individuals and families
    • Offer in-person support to designated families (no more than once a week)
    • Use your personal recovery experience and peer support skills to guide others through their healing journey
    • Follow up with participants weekly to track progress and identify evolving needs

    Community Connection & Navigation

    • Connect families to essential services using multiple referral systems (211 LA County, Unite Us platform, community centers, provider networks, and MMHN's resource directory)
    • Coordinate and facilitate weekly support groups for LA County birthing people and families
    • Participate in community engagement activities including outreach events, tabling, and partner collaborations

    Program Support & Development

    • Maintain accurate documentation in program databases
    • Collaborate with the MMHN team to research, develop, and update program elements
    • Assist with resource and provider directory maintenance
    • Support agency events including the annual conference, wellness events, training webinars, and Black Birthworkers Community initiatives
    • Collect impact data for program reporting as needed

    Professional Development

    • Complete California Peer Recovery Certification within your first year
    • Participate in ongoing perinatal mental health trainings
    • Attend weekly staff meetings and individual supervision sessions

    Work Environment & Schedule

Schedule: This position starts at 20 hours per week with strong potential to grow to full-time (40 hours/week). Core hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with flexibility in consultation with your supervisor. Occasional evening or weekend events may be required.

Location: Primarily remote with regular in-person requirements for meetings, events, and family visits in the Los Angeles County area.

Reporting Structure: You'll report to the Senior Manager of Community Programs and collaborate closely with the Wellness Coordinator, Executive Director, Director of Training, Training Coordinator, Development Manager, and Director of Perinatal Mental Health Equity.

    Required Qualifications

    • Lived experience with a perinatal mental health complication
    • Peer identity with program participants
