    OVERVIEW

    The Compost Program Coordinator plays an essential role in the Prescott Community Compost (PCC) team. The Compost Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Compost Program Manager and the Compost Site Coordinator to ensure that the program runs smoothly. The position requires performing hands-on, highly-physical composting tasks (30%), fostering community engagement through outreach activities (30%) and performing administrative tasks to sustain the program (30%).

    This position requires an individual who is comfortable with physical labor, enjoys community interaction, and is passionate about environmental sustainability. The Compost Program Coordinator will receive training from the Compost Program Manager on best practices for urban composting and then will be expected to supervise volunteers and manage composting operations at the compost site and Saturday farmers market. Required skills include experience with writing professional reports/proposals/grants, systems creation and management, data collection and entry, and digital organization. The position is part-time, approximately 25 hours/week.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    The work week for the Prescott Community Compost team is Thursday-Monday. Workday requirements on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays rotate between team members. A typical work schedule for the team looks like:

    Thursday: complete office work, conduct site maintenance, participate in team meeting

    Friday: lead volunteers in onsite tasks, prepare truck and trailer for Saturday market food scrap collection (6 hours)

    Saturday: set up, operate and close down the compost booth at the market (7 hours)

    Sunday: lead volunteers in mixing food scraps, sawdust etc. and building it into a pile (8 hours)

    Monday: prepare for and attend PFM staff meeting, conduct regular compost site maintenance

    The Compost Program Coordinator’s specific schedule will be determined upon hiring with the team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

    COMPOSTING TASKS

    • Monitor and maintain compost piles efficiently, ensuring quality compost production
    • Work with the compost team to ensure the site is operating efficiently, improve site facilities and further program operations
    • Transport materials (buckets, sawdust, totes, tent, etc.) from the compost site to and from the market location
    • Complete transactions for bucket fees, compost sales and dump fees with cash, cards, checks and tokens while maintaining excellent customer service
    • Collect required data during the market and enter into appropriate channels
    • Orient new volunteers and lead volunteers in mixing and turning compost piles
    • Prepare the work space; take out tools and supplies, prepare hoses, etc.
    • Understand the art and science of composting so you are able to valuably educate volunteers and visitors

    COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT/OUTREACH

    • Conduct outreach about the program, including volunteer recruitment, social media marketing, etc.
    • Seek and secure opportunities for the Compost Program Manager to present
    • Stay educated about best practices, professional development opportunities, and other ways to engage with the community

    ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS

    • Maintain detailed digital records of volunteer hours, tons of compost sold, etc.
    • Research and write grant proposals
    • Seek partnerships and sponsorships from local businesses
    • Create and manage systems for team accountability and digital organization

    SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

    Required:

    • Willingness to become an expert/nerd-out about the composting process with the goal of being a resource for our community
    • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly
    • Professional writing experience and excellent verbal communication skills
    • Highly organized with attention to detail and excellent time management skills
    • Personal investment in the outcome of interactions with teammates, customers, volunteers, etc.
    • Experience using Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Sheets etc.)
    • Willingness to work outside in all types of weather
    • Dependability and ability to hold oneself accountable
    • Familiarity with Instagram
    • Valid driver’s license

    Preferred:

    • Bilingual (Spanish/English)
    • Two or more years administrative experience
    • Leadership experience in volunteer coordination or program management
    • Experience with grant writing, fundraising, and data organization

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    • Part-time, $22/hour
    • Average: 25 hours/week
