    Description

Democratism is a small, volunteer-led nonprofit working to stop the authoritarian takeover and restore constitutional democracy in the United States through state and local action. We seek a Communications & Digital Fundraising Lead to build and run a digital communications and small-donor fundraising operation in support of that effort. Responsibilities include developing and executing a strategy to grow an audience, convert supporters into small donors, and sustain ongoing engagement, using digital communications channels including email and social media. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and with volunteers, exercising judgment, meeting goals, and setting and adjusting priorities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop, propose, and execute a digital communications and small-donor fundraising strategy in support of Democratism’s proposal and effort, including setting priorities, defining goals, and establishing a realistic plan of work.
    • Communicate Democratism's proposals and strategic framework clearly and persuasively to a broad audience.
    • Build and grow an email list as the primary engine for small-donor fundraising, including developing acquisition approaches, determining email cadence, and cultivating ongoing donor and supporter engagement.
    • Plan, create, schedule, and publish ongoing digital communications, primarily via email and social media, to engage supporters and advance the fundraising and engagement strategy over time.
    • Work closely with organizational leadership to ensure that all messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with Democratism’s strategy and positions, including incorporating feedback and obtaining approval for new messaging.
    • Define, track, and report on activity and performance metrics (e.g., email sends, list growth, engagement, donations), and use those metrics to assess progress, refine strategy, and inform planning.
    • Work independently and in coordination with volunteers and others, helping to integrate their efforts into the overall communications and fundraising strategy as appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience with digital communications and/or small-donor fundraising, including work involving email, social media, or other digital engagement channels.
    • Demonstrated ability to form and execute a plan, including defining goals, setting priorities, and carrying work through from strategy to implementation.
    • Comfort working independently in a low-infrastructure, volunteer-led environment, with accountability primarily through agreed plans and metrics.
    • Ability and willingness to learn Democratism's substantively complex proposal and strategy, and to engage with the underlying ideas.
    • Comfort collaborating closely with organizational leadership on messaging in a politically sensitive context, including incorporating feedback and working within a defined messaging framework to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, persuasively, and responsibly to a broad audience.
    • Comfort creating and working with digital content, including text and simple visuals, and collaborating with others or using available digital tools as needed.
    • Experience working with metrics (e.g., engagement, list growth, donations) to assess performance, learn from results, and refine approach over time.
    • Ability to work constructively with volunteers and others, including coordinating efforts into a broader strategy when appropriate.
