    About the Programme

    SwimTayka, in partnership with Otra Cosa Network (OCN), delivers a community-based swimming and water safety programme for children in Huanchaco. The initiative aims to reduce drowning risks, promote respect for the ocean, and equip young people with essential life-saving skills.

    We are now seeking a local Swimming Programme Manager to lead the daily running of this vital project. This person will oversee lesson delivery, coordinate volunteers and instructors, ensure child safety, and contribute to the growth of the programme in future years.

    Role Purpose

    To manage and deliver the daily swimming and drowning prevention programme in Huanchaco, coordinating instructors, volunteers and community partners, and ensuring high standards of safety, teaching and impact reporting.

    Main Responsibilities

    Programme Delivery

    • Plan and implement the swimming programme across 4 days per week, ensuring all sessions run smoothly.
    • Supervise the work of instructors and volunteers, ensuring activities are age-appropriate and safe.
    • Ability to write good quality reports middle and end of the program. You should check up on the amount and quality of work being accomplished and check it against the plan.
    • Ensure teaching is inclusive and responsive to children of varying skill levels.

    Team Management

    • Organise and lead regular briefings for instructors and volunteers.
    • Support less experienced teachers and volunteers with guidance and feedback.
    • Promote a collaborative and positive atmosphere among all staff and participants.

    Child Safety and Safeguarding

    • Maintain safe teaching practices in and around the pool at all times.
    • Monitor behaviour and intervene as needed to keep children safe and supported.
    • Report and document any concerns, incidents or injuries in a timely and professional manner.

    Community Liaison and Engagement

    • Act as a point of contact for local families, school representatives, and the OCN team.
    • Provide feedback to parents and support wider outreach and awareness activities when required.
    • Represent the programme positively within the local community.

    Monitoring and Reporting

    • Track participant attendance and monitor children’s progress throughout the programme.
    • Draft weekly updates and a final programme report (with support if required).
    • Record feedback from instructors, volunteers, and community members to support improvements.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience & Skills

    • Proven experience teaching swimming to children (especially aged 4–14).
    • Strong understanding of water safety and group supervision in pool settings.
    • Experience coordinating educational or community projects.
    • Able to write basic reports, manage session records, and coordinate teams.
    • Confident speaking and writing in Spanish; basic English is an advantage.

    Availability

    Support Provided

    • Induction and orientation from OCN and SwimTayka staff.
    • Ongoing support from local volunteers and visiting SwimTayka team members.
    • Access to equipment and teaching resources for programme delivery.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Confident speaking and writing in Spanish; basic English is an advantage.
