    Position Overview

    A highly professional and experienced Academic Tutor working with members of the community school site teams and teachers to plan targeted, high-leverage academic interventions for middle school students in Algebra. In collaboration with school admin and teachers, the Academic Tutor will support the students facing academic challenges, and test preparations for State Exams and Regents Exams. The Academic Tutor will design individual and small group of academic interventions that may include homework help, tutoring, and mentoring. The interventions must be age-appropriate and differentiated by grade and specific needs. The Academic Tutor may serve students with academic difficulties, and/or who are identified as at-risk.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide a variety of researched-based math intervention strategies to promote student academic growth;
    • Maintain continued communication with content area teachers and ensure knowledge of grade-level standards and concepts through weekly participation in grade team meetings;
    • Model responses and provide visual anchors/agendas/materials and lead students through guided and independent practice and regularly check for understanding;
    • Serve as a resource for families, teachers, and staff to ensure the understanding of the individual's academic needs;
    • Use data to drive decisions;
    • Engage parents and families in their children's academic success through regular communication of success and challenges; communicate regularly with parents about student progress;
    • Keep accurate and organized records of student information and progress;

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collegial working environment
    • Passion for working with students in under-resourced schools
    • At least 2 years of teaching experience strongly preferred
    • Exceptional level of patience and focus to overcome challenges, and achieve results
    • A passion for mission-driven school culture
    • Demonstrated success in raising the achievement levels of students
    • Bilingual speakers are preferred (Spanish, French, Bengali, Arabic.)

    Requirements

    • DOE Fingerprinted
    • Knowledge of the NYS Exams and Regents Examinations
    • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of tutoring experience required OR High school diploma with at least 5 years of tutoring experience

    Pay and Benefits

    • $25 - $60/hour, based on experience and NYS Teacher Certification
