Family Reading Partners is a non-profit organization based in Orange County, NC, dedicated to fostering early literacy by empowering parents to support their children’s learning through shared reading and meaningful conversations. Our Home Visiting Program supports families with children from birth to kindergarten, providing quarterly visits where children receive books and educational toys, and parents receive guidance on activities and best practices to promote language and literacy development. These efforts aim to foster a love of reading, interactive play, and meaningful family connections.
To further our mission and better serve Spanish-speaking families, we are seeking a bilingual Spanish-speaking Home Visitor and Program Assistant to provide inclusive services tailored to the needs of our Spanish-speaking families.
Position: Part-Time Bilingual Home Visitor and Program Assistant
Hours: Beginning at 15 hours per week, with the potential for increased hours based on organizational needs and performance.
Compensation: Hourly rate of $20.00
Location: Partially remote position, with occasional in-person meetings, home visits, events, and regular in-office hours. The role requires the ability to travel within Orange County for work-related activities, including home visiting. Candidates should have reliable transportation, a stable internet connection, and a suitable remote work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct home visits to Spanish-speaking families to provide guidance and support around early literacy practices, with a focus on shared reading and language development.
- Model effective literacy strategies and reading techniques for parents and caregivers, promoting a love for reading and learning in young children from birth to kindergarten.
- Share culturally relevant books and materials to encourage daily reading routines at home.
- Conduct intake interviews in English and Spanish as part of the program referral process, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and followed up on as needed to support enrollment.
- Provide direct support to volunteer Early Literacy Mentors working with Spanish-speaking families, including conducting surveys and completing Kindergarten Readiness Program elements.
- Ensure communication and support services are inclusive, respectful, and responsive to the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of participating families, including translating written materials into Spanish and communicating with Spanish-speaking families as needed.
- Provide general support for program operations, including participating in events, outreach activities, and other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
- Experience working in early childhood education, social work, literacy programs, or related fields.
- Ability to engage and connect with young children and their families.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of early literacy development and best practices.
- Experience working with diverse communities and understanding cultural sensitivities.
- Proficiency in using digital tools such as Google Workspace for communication and record-keeping.
