    ABOUT THE COMPANY

    Recovery Café was founded on the understanding that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, or addictive behaviors. We provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (our most closely-supported participants) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education, and employment.

    Recovery Café operates two cafés in Seattle and operates the Recovery Café Network, which provides training and support to over 80 Member Cafés in the US and beyond. We have a staff of about 35.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Under the direction of the Director of Programs, the Operations Manager ensures the Recovery Café (RC) community is one that embraces, promotes and maintains a stance of radical hospitality in the context of loving accountability. This person is dedicated to providing a safe and secure space for individuals to be known, heard and supported, while developing the tools necessary for sustainable recovery. This person provides direct service to Members and Community Volunteers and supervises a team of full-time and on-call floor staff.

    The general work schedule for this position is anticipated to be Tuesday-Saturday 10:00am-6:30 pm, though work hours in this salaried exempt position may be expected to vary.

    This job is physically active and dynamic. There will be days when the Operations Manager will be on their feet most of the time. The ideal Operations Manager is willing to help wherever needed to ensure excellent program services. This person should be comfortable interacting with people who struggle with substance use disorders, cognitive impairments, and other mental health challenges. The majority of people RC services are unhoused. Interruptions, opportunities for de-escalation, and interacting with first responders for people in crisis will occur on a regular basis. The successful Operations Manager will love collaborating with others to find caring solutions for challenges that come up in daily operations as well as for the people we serve.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Train and supervise Kitchen Manager and staff in:

    • taking inventory of food, beverage, and café supplies
    • food and supply shopping, including management of food donation and pick-up
    • food and beverage preparation

    Oversee daily and on-going kitchen operations

    Maintain accuracy and cost-effectiveness of inventory and purchasing

    Maintain required monthly food reporting

    Train and supervise all Café Managers and actively participate in direct service:

    • facilitate Recovery Circles
    • provide resource access assistance to Members
    • respond to requests from Member and Community Volunteers for external communication support, e.g. community service hours, circle attendance

    Identify, empower and mentor Members, staff and Community Volunteers into Café leadership and deeper community engagement. This may include:

    • training others on the team to do the same
    • facilitating staff and Member consultation meetings
    • holding primary responsibility for Recovery Coach training/organization

    Ensure the Café program staff schedule provides for smooth daily operations

    Develop and maintain a building/facility management system to ensure the Café and surroundings remain clean and beautiful, including coordination around planned maintenance

    Be on the call list when the Café’s alarm system is triggered and respond on-site if necessary

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • One (1) year of kitchen management experience
    • Three (3) years of recent supervisory experience; preferably supervising union-represented employees
    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Strong desire to support others on the recovery journey with compassion and motivate all pathways of recovery
    • Personal understanding of the recovery journey (not necessarily from substance use)
    • Strong interpersonal skills to include:
      • commitment to teamwork
      • ability to work amicably on a diverse team with flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm
      • ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationship boundaries
      • ability to motivate others
    • Ability to de-escalate interpersonal conflict and other difficult situations in a context of loving accountability
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to represent Recovery Café services to Members, other agencies, and visitors, in person and via phone or email
    • Strong organizational skills including time management and team utilization
    • Proficiency in basic computer skills; includes the ability to utilize Microsoft Word and Excel and to develop expert understanding and use of RC’s AGENCY database
    • Valid WA State driver’s license and safe driving record
    • WA State Food Handler’s Permit or eligibility to obtain one
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand or move on foot for extended periods of time
    • Willingness to wear non-slip, toe-enclosed shoes

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience in social services addressing addiction and other mental health concerns
    • Drug/Alcohol Counseling experience or education in Human Services (e.g. Chemical Dependency)
    • Bi-lingual proficiency in Spanish and English
