    Description

New York Disaster & Interfaith Services (NYDIS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit faith-based federation of faith communities, human services providers and charitable organizations who work in partnerships. NYDIS inspires, connects, and equips faith communities to serve our neighbors in times of crisis and suffering, by building pathways to recovery, resilience and social justice. Our vision is a world where all people can mitigate or recover from crisis and thrive—with justice, dignity, and the unwavering certainty that they are valued and cared for unconditionally.

Our Drivers work at NYDIS’ Food Bank & Humanitarian Hub (HUB NYC) and play an essential role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of food, shelter supplies, clothing, and disaster response equipment across New York City’s five boroughs. In addition to driving duties, the Driver is responsible for actively participating in inventory, receiving donated goods, and maintaining our warehouse. The ideal candidate will have a clean driving record and experience driving Sprinter vans and box trucks as well as operating power pallet jacks and lift gates. Our drivers must be friendly, able to problem solve and have excellent time management skills. We seek candidates with a passion for making a positive impact in the community. Drivers report directly to the HUB Warehouse Manager and will work onsite at our warehouse (currently in Industry City, Brooklyn, with a planned move to Queens). The position may require occasional weekend work and/or emergency runs 24/7/365 and flexibility in scheduling.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Safely operate NYDIS vehicles to transport food, clothing, supplies and equipment to food pantries, soup kitchens, building fires, shelters, and other sites across the five boroughs.
    • Assist with loading and unloading of deliveries - ensuring everything is securely packed and handled with care.
    • Collaborate with the HUB management to coordinate delivery schedules and routes.
    • Participate in the receipt, storage, and organization of inventory, including tracking and documenting all incoming and outgoing items as well as proper storage for food or supplies.
    • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, ensuring that vehicles are in safe working conditions.
    • Maintain accurate records of miles, gas use and deliveries, including times, locations, and items transported.
    • Assist with implementing and enforcing inventory control procedures to ensure efficient tracking and distribution.
    • Support volunteers and staff in warehouse activities, providing guidance when required.
    • Follow all safety protocols and NYDIS policies to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and volunteers.
    • Communicate effectively with site managers and other stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate delivery.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
    • 2-3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with food and for a warehouse distribution setting.
    • Experience in inventory management and control, preferably in a warehouse environment.
    • Experience operating Sprinter Vans and Box Trucks with lift gates – as well as power pallet jacks.
    • Physically able to assist with loading/unloading and operating warehouse equipment, such as a pallet jack.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
    • Flexibility to work occasional weekends, emergency calls or evenings as required.

Compensation: $20-$25 per hour, commensurate with experience - with excellent benefits.
