    Dogwood brings people together to transform our democracy, uphold Indigenous rights and defend the climate, land and water that sustain life in B.C. With our allies, we work to break free from fossil fuels, supercharge decarbonization, and counter corporate influence on our democracy and rising right-wing narratives. All of this work takes place on unceded, stolen Indigenous territories amidst ongoing colonial violence, racial injustices and profound wealth inequalities. Thus, Dogwood will contribute, always, to the generations-long project of repairing the injustices of colonialism and dismantling systems of oppression.

    Dogwood is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization. We currently have 14 staff members, sustaining a network of over 100,000 supporters and anchoring volunteer teams in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island.

    We currently have an opening for a contract Municipal Election Campaigner who will use opportunities at the municipal level to advance Dogwood’s ongoing campaigns leading up to and during the 2026 B.C. municipal elections. Dogwood’s role in this campaign will remain non-partisan.

    The successful candidate will work with our Municipal Election Team to:

    • Use municipal election opportunities to advance our ongoing campaigns via
    • a) Exposing industry ties and propaganda, primarily Fortis’/fossil fuel industry and related right-wing influence in local politics;
    • b) Spotlighting and stopping climate policy rollbacks;
    • c) Helping advance green and affordable housing in municipalities (for example, the Zero Carbon Step Code).
    • Keep tabs on local issues or races throughout B.C. that might provide opportunities for engagement and/or building Dogwood’s base of supporters during and after the election.
    • Lead Dogwood’s voter education work.

    As part of our team, you’ll get to:

    • Keep an eye on the races, candidates and issue developments, and surface opportunities and moments for Dogwood to engage. This includes both an all-of-BC view as well as input into campaign and organizing work in three target locations.
    • Create framing, content and assets for communications and field work, both digital and print (eg. messaging for ads or video reels; Q&As or briefing docs for volunteers).
    • Work with Dogwood’s Strategy and Municipal election staff teams to develop and update campaign strategies, tactics and messaging, and create work-plans (eg. a city plan or a B.C.-wide engagement plan). Help establish goals; monitor and update metrics.
    • Act as the Dogwood rep in meeting with allies or coalitions interested in municipal elections as identified and prioritized by the Municipal Election Team.
    • Liaise with volunteers and supporters outside our target areas.
    • Develop plans to use the Union of BC Municipalities Convention and resolution process to educate local officials and counter gas industry influence.

    To be considered for this position, you need to:

    • Have experience working on an election-focused campaign, whether for a candidate/political party or an issues-focused third party.
    • Have a keen understanding of B.C. politics, including what areas of governance are under municipal control.
    • Have experience creating content for a variety of audiences and for print and online use
    • Have a track-record of hitting the ground running in a fast-paced campaign, and a demonstrated ability to take initiative as part of a distributed/remote team.
    • Be committed to Dogwood’s mission to decolonize, decarbonize and democratize B.C.

    Additional Experience and Skills

    Other personal strengths, knowledge, lived experience, training or aptitudes in these areas would be considered additional assets in this role and we encourage you to highlight them in your application.

    • Experience working in a non-partisan, non-profit environment
    • Have experience in organizing, volunteer coordination or community engagement
    • Experience developing social media or other digital tactics designed to influence a specific audience or advance a cause
    • Comfortable with, or excited to experiment with, digital and virtual collaboration tools, such as Nationbuilder, Salesforce, peer-to-peer texting, Zoom, Google suite.

    This position predominantly requires computer work that may be done from any location but may require the successful candidate to attend events or meet with staff or volunteers.

    Dogwood offers a flexible and rewarding work environment, including paid vacation, and health, dental and paramedical benefits. The successful candidate will be a member of the B.C. Government Employees Union as a long-term contract employee as per the bargaining agreement.

    To apply for this position please submit your resume and cover letter to our web form here . We are happy to accept application statements in written, audio or video form. No phone calls please.

    Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. The process for this position will include an interview and the possibility of a written assignment. The hiring committee aims to make a hiring decision by Feb. 5, 2026.

    Dogwood is committed to becoming a workplace where people of diverse identities, backgrounds and abilities want to work and feel safe working. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply including Black, Indigenous and people of colour; people of all gender identities and abilities.
