    Description

Join us in telling California’s unsung stories and amplifying its unheard voices! We are an independent, nonprofit book and magazine publisher looking for a passionate, strategic, and innovative fundraiser to join our staff.

About you: You are a self-directed, enthusiastic professional with experience working in fundraising. You have a proven ability to approach people of capacity and inspire them to donate (five figures and above); you have experience independently securing major donors. You are organized and orient your efforts toward maximum effectiveness. You are a persuasive ambassador, and you have a personal stake in our mission and community—passion for the published word is a must. You are attracted to the friendly, passionate, and purpose-driven atmosphere of a scrappy nonprofit. We have flexibility about hours and in-office work; we prefer you work two or three days per week out of our Berkeley office.

About the position: This position is part-time (32 hours) and reports to the General Manager. There will be weekend/evening work around events and travel within the greater Bay Area and to Los Angeles. Health, dental, and vision benefits, along with access to a 401k included. Salary range $75,000 to $85,000, depending on experience. Starts immediately.

    • Oversee the organization’s fundraising activity from individual contributions and events.
    • Execute individual giving strategy in close collaboration with leadership, the staff, and the board of directors (especially the development committee).
    • Cultivate major donors: identify prospects, strategize approach, make asks, process gifts, and maintain relationships. Coordinate efforts with the Publisher, who is also doing this work. Activate board of directors’ networks and enroll them in the process.
    • Supervise 50% of Marketing and Membership Associate position.
    • Plan fundraising events (a major focus is our much-loved Heyday Harvest), plus other smaller cultivation and engagement events. Strategize more robust fundraising in Southern California.

Please send cover letters and résumés to jobs@heydaybooks.com. Heyday is an equal opportunity employer.
