    Full-Time Instructor – Multi-Trade (HVAC Focus)

    The Energy Coordinating Agency (ECA) is Philadelphia’s trusted leader in energy efficiency, sustainability, and workforce development. Our 30,000 sq. ft. LEED Gold–certified Green Careers Training Center is the region’s premier hub for preparing workers for clean energy and construction careers. As one of only two Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry certified Weatherization Training Centers and the first Building Performance Institute (BPI) Affiliate in the state, ECA is shaping the future of the green workforce.

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking a passionate and versatile Instructor with a strong foundation in HVAC and related trades to join our training team. The ideal candidate will bring at least 3-5 years of field experience, a love for teaching, and a commitment to equipping diverse learners with the skills to succeed in high-demand, good-paying jobs in HVAC, weatherization, and green construction.

    This is more than a teaching position; it’s an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives, strengthening communities while advancing the clean energy economy.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Teach and mentor students in HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and energy auditing (preferred) through hands-on and classroom instruction.
    • Deliver engaging curriculum aligned with industry standards and certifications, including EPA 608 Refrigeration.
    • Provide training in specialized environments including Heat Pump Lab, Residential and Commercial HVAC Labs.
    • Fully functional Test House for energy auditor certification.
    • Building Science.
    • Support student learning with lessons, demonstrations, labs, and one-on-one mentorship.
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional training environment.
    • Assess student progress, provide feedback, and recommend additional resources.
    • Collaborate with training team members to refine curriculum and enhance program outcomes.
    • Travel as needed to off-site training sessions or partner locations.

    Qualifications:

    • Prior teaching or training experience is highly preferred (training provided for the right candidate).
    • Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NCCER, or equivalent a plus.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners and high school students.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for short-term training assignments.
    • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle report, and drug testing required.
    • Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, NCCER, or equivalent a plus.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners and high school students.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for short-term training assignments.
    • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle report, and drug testing required.
