    Description

    The ICCT is an award-winning, independent, global, non-profit research organization that supports the effective design and implementation of policies to address the impacts of the global transportation sector on climate change and public health. Our organization achieves this by providing high-quality and timely data-driven research to public officials at all levels of government – city, state, national, regional, and international – as well as to civil society and the media.     The ICCT employs around 185 professionals in 10 countries and has permanent offices in Beijing, China; Berlin, Germany; New Delhi, India; San Francisco, CA; São Paulo, Brazil; and Washington D.C. This position reports to the Indonesia Regional Director and is based in Jakarta. Some domestic and international travel will be required.

    To succeed at the ICCT, you should be intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work with people across the globe. The ideal candidate will bring interdisciplinary knowledge of transportation, energy, and environmental research, data analysis skills, research project experience, written and spoken fluency in English and Bahasa, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a demonstrated interest in solving our most pressing global health and environmental challenges.     The vacancy is an Associate Researcher position.

    You Will:

    • Conduct policy-relevant technical research to understand the environmental and energy impact of the road transport sector in Indonesia;
    • Identify the best practice design and implementation of supply-side regulations, fiscal incentives, and energy infrastructure to support Indonesia’s net zero carbon goals;
    • Communicate your findings to government officials, private industry and civil society through clear presentations, technical reports, newsletters, blogs, op-eds, and other outreach activities in both Bahasa and English;
    • Represent the ICCT in public and private meetings with external stakeholders, including government officials, non-governmental organizations, academics, and industry;
    • Collaborate with an international community of researchers including ICCT staff and international partner organizations;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    You Have:

    • A graduate level degree in any science, technology, or engineering-related field, including at least three years of relevant research experience;
    • Interdisciplinary training or professional experience that includes transportation, energy, economics, international affairs, public health, public policy, or environmental science;
    • Demonstrated the ability to design a research project, collect relevant data, construct or apply an analytical tool, and draw conclusions from the data;
    • Strong writing and public speaking skills, including the ability to communicate technical information and policy details to a non-technical audience;
    • Strong proficiency with data analysis tools, such as Python or related programming language.
    • Familiarity with Indonesian policy-making processes. Existing relationships with Indonesian government, industry, and civil society stakeholders is desirable but not required;
    • Primary fluency (bilingual proficiency) in Bahasa and English, including the ability to write and speak both Bahasa and English fluently;
    • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and strategic thinking capabilities coupled with an outcome delivery-oriented approach;
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
